Job Summary:
We are seeking a reliable, proactive, and hands-on School Caretaker to join our site team. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the school premises are clean, safe, secure, and well-maintained at all times. This role plays a key part in supporting the smooth day-to-day operations of the school and creating a welcoming environment for students, staff, and visitors.
Key Responsibilities:
Site Maintenance & Security

Open and close the school premises, ensuring it is secure at all times.

Carry out daily checks of buildings, grounds, and facilities.

Perform minor repairs and maintenance (e.g. changing light bulbs, fixing doors).

Report larger maintenance issues to the appropriate contractors or management.

Ensure the school is kept secure and alarm systems are managed properly.
Health & Safety

Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations at all times.

Carry out routine health and safety checks (e.g. fire alarms, emergency lighting).

Clear snow, ice, or leaves from access points to ensure safety in all weather conditions.
Cleaning & Hygiene

Support the cleaning team where necessary, including emergency cleaning tasks.

Ensure hygiene supplies (soap, paper towels, etc.) are replenished.

Assist with deep cleaning during school holidays or closures.
Groundskeeping

Maintain the school grounds, including litter picking, weeding, and general upkeep.

Supervise or support external contractors (e.g. gardeners, cleaners) when on site.
Logistics & Support

Set up rooms or halls for school events, exams, or assemblies.

Accept and distribute deliveries to the correct departments.

Monitor and manage stock of site supplies and materials.
Person Specification:
Essential:

Previous experience in a caretaker, site manager, or facilities role.

Basic DIY and maintenance skills.

Understanding of health and safety responsibilities.

Reliable, punctual, and trustworthy.

Ability to work independently and take initiative.

Strong problem-solving skills.
Desirable:

Experience working in a school or educational setting.

Relevant qualifications in maintenance, health & safety, or facilities management.
