Scala Engineer

Hays are now looking for a Scala Engineer for one of our local clients:

• -500 - -600 p/d Inside IR35 (Depending on level)
• Remote Working
• 6 month+ contract

We are looking for an experienced Scala Engineer to play a key role in upgrading applications from Play Framework 2.8 to Play 3.0, modernising services, and implementing the System across customer-facing portals.
This is primarily a hands-on software engineering role with a strong focus on Scala development rather than cloud infrastructure, although the applications are hosted within AWS.

Essential Skills
- Strong commercial experience with Scala
- Experience developing applications using the Play Framework
- Knowledge of Play 2.8 to Play 3.0 migrations/upgrades
- Experience building and maintaining RESTful APIs and web applications
- Experience working within Agile delivery teams
- Ability to work in complex public sector or enterprise environments


Desirable Skills
- AWS-hosted application development
- Experience within government or highly regulated environments
- CI/CD and modern software engineering practices
- Front-end development experience


Role Responsibilities
- Deliver new features and enhancements using Scala and Play Framework.
- Support the migration from Play 2.8 to Play 3.0.
- Implement Design System standards across customer-facing services.
- Develop and maintain APIs and web applications hosted on AWS.
- Collaborate with architects, developers, testers, and business stakeholders to deliver high-quality solutions.
