We are excited to be working with a well-established electrical distributor who have a fantastic permanent full-time opportunity for a Sales Director to join their team in the Southampton area.
The Role:
Our client is seeking a results-driven and strategic Sales Director to lead and grow their sales operations. Reporting directly to the Managing Director, this role will play a critical part in refining the company’s marketing and sales strategy, expanding market presence, and achieving revenue targets. The ideal candidate will bring extensive experience in the electrical industry and a proven track record in managing a high-performing sales team and developing business within the contractor and trade sectors.
Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate and refine current marketing and sales strategies, providing actionable improvement plans to the Managing Director
- Develop and manage relationships with electrical contractors and lead a dedicated sales team focused on project specification and account growth
- Expand the customer base by identifying new business opportunities and opening accounts within trade and wholesale channels
- Lead the development and execution of annual marketing and product plans in alignment with company goals
- Support the Managing Director in formulating and implementing pricing models, sales strategies, regional coverage plans, and promotional campaigns
- Design and oversee a scalable, effective national sales infrastructure, including strategic planning, team structuring, and leadership development
- Establish and enforce standardised sales policies, processes, and management systems to ensure operational consistency and excellence
- Set clear sales targets in accordance with company objectives; monitor performance, implement corrective actions, and drive the team to achieve and exceed goals
- Recruit, mentor, and manage the sales team to deliver measurable growth and market share expansion
Candidate Requirements
- A Higher National Diploma or higher qualification in Business, Sales & Marketing, Electrical Engineering, or a related field (desirable)
- Strong background in the electrical industry, with comprehensive knowledge of single-phase and three-phase consumer units
- Formal training in strategic management, marketing, contract law, financial management, and negotiation. (Highly desirable)
- A minimum of 10 years of experience in sales and marketing within the electrical sector, with at least 5 years in a Sales Director or National Sales Manager role
- Demonstrated success in delivering consistent revenue growth and achieving or exceeding sales targets
- Deep understanding of low voltage product markets, industry regulations, and customer requirements
- Excellent market insight and the ability to anticipate and respond to market trends
- A well-established network of industry contacts and existing sales channels
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other relevant sales using a CRM software
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- High level of integrity, accountability, and professionalism
Salary:
- Competitive Salary
- Car allowance of £600 per month
Working Hours:
- Monday to Friday, 8.30am – 5pm (some flexibility will be required when needed to meet business demands)
