Rotational Pharmacist Band 6&7 Step Up programme

OverviewWe are looking for an enthusiastic pharmacist to join our friendly department at the Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust. You will receive excellent support and training from our senior pharmacists, laying a solid foundation for your future career. We believe in investing in our junior pharmacists and are passionate about developing our pharmacists into the clinical leaders and consultant pharmacists of the future. We have a principal pharmacist dedicated to education and training to ensure our staff receive outstanding training and development. You will have the opportunity to rotate through wards and departments, depending on your pay band.
Band 6: Paediatrics, Acute Medicine, Total Parenteral Nutrition (pharmacy aseptics), General Surgery, Cardiac Services, Respiratory Medicine, Stroke, Elderly care, Medicines Information.
Band 7: Trauma and Orthopaedics, Diabetes, General Medicine, Critical Care, Gastroenterology, Rheumatology/Surgery, Renal, Cytotoxics and Oncology (pharmacy aseptics).
Candidates with suitable hospital experience would be recruited at band 7.

Main duties
Provide professional pharmaceutical services, including reviewing prescriptions, dispensing, aseptic preparation, and clinical pharmacy services in all areas of the department on a rotational basis.
Supervise/provide professional support to trainee pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, students and support staff.
Managed, where appropriate by the Senior Pharmacist in each area of activity.
Undertakes postgraduate clinical training such as the diploma in clinical pharmacy and/or independent prescribing.
Provide a comprehensive clinical pharmacy service to wards and departments providing a medicines management service directly to patients with support and training from experienced staff.
Provide advice to medical and nursing staff on drug usage, and encourage compliance with the hospital/health economy formulary to ensure safe, rational, and economic prescribing.
Provide professional pharmacist cover in all areas including inpatient and outpatient dispensaries, aseptic dispensing services, medicines information, and clinical pharmacy services according to specified rota.
Provide a professional lead to pharmacy technical and support staff managing medicines in designated ward areas.
Integrate into the multidisciplinary team and attend ward rounds making proactive interventions in individual patients therapy by providing information on drug related issues and acting as a Pharmacy contact.
Provide advice to patients on the correct use of medication and ensure that directions associated with medications are understood, including the main side-effects of the medications.
Identify drug related admissions and where appropriate follow through with a yellow card report to the MHRA.
Resolve medicines related problems associated with individual patients between primary and secondary care.
Support senior pharmacists contributing/providing pharmaceutical advice to the multidisciplinary audit of treatment guidelines.
Support senior pharmacists providing pharmaceutical advice at directorate level.
Maintain an up to date knowledge of developments in medical and pharmaceutical practice, as part of continuing professional development.

Qualifications and experienceQualification
Masters Degree in Pharmacy
Registration with GPhC as a pharmacist
Desirable
Pre-registration year completed in hospital pharmacy
Experience in hospital pharmacy as a rotational clinical pharmacist
Completed the pharmacy clinical diploma or equivalent (score 2 if commenced but not completed)
ExperienceEssential
Excellent communication skills

Evidence of participation in an outside group within pharmacy e.g. UKCPA
Evidence of interests outside of pharmacy to maintain wellbeing and work life balance
Experience of working or training within a medicine information service
Evidence of strong problem-solving skills
