Roofing Estimator

Role Overview
We are looking for an experienced Roofing Estimator to join a specialist contractor working across a wide range of commercial and industrial roofing projects. The role involves preparing accurate, timely, and competitive estimates, while ensuring compliance with specifications, drawings, and industry standards.
The successful candidate will have strong knowledge of roofing systems, an eye for detail, and the ability to assess project requirements to deliver robust pricing and value engineering solutions.
Key Responsibilities

Prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates for roofing projects, including flat roofing, pitched roofing, cladding, waterproofing, and associated works.

Review tender documentation, drawings, and specifications to determine scope of works.

Carry out material take-offs and create bills of quantities.

Source, liaise, and negotiate with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain competitive quotations.

Analyse risks, exclusions, and opportunities within tender documents.

Attend pre- and post-tender meetings with clients, consultants, and the internal delivery team.

Provide technical and commercial input into bids and proposals.

Support handover to project managers, ensuring clarity on scope, pricing, and assumptions.

Track tender outcomes, maintain records, and contribute to continuous improvement of the estimating process.
Skills & Experience

Previous experience as a Roofing Estimator within the construction or specialist roofing sector.

Strong understanding of different roofing systems (e.g., single ply, liquid applied, felt, slate, tile, standing seam, composite panels).

Ability to read and interpret architectural drawings and specifications.

Proficient in estimating software, spreadsheets, and Microsoft Office applications.

Strong commercial acumen and cost-analysis skills.

Excellent attention to detail and organisational ability.

Effective communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively with clients, suppliers, and colleagues.
Qualifications

HNC/HND or degree in Construction, Quantity Surveying, or a related discipline (preferred but not essential).

Relevant trade background or roofing industry qualifications would be advantageous.
