We started roasting in the basement of our first restaurant fifteen years ago. Today, we’re a B Corp certified roaster, supplying coffee fresh from the Loring S70 Peregrine at our North London roastery to a range of growing customers, including our nine restaurants and two Brew Bars. Last year we opened a roasting space and installed a Loring S7 Nighthawk inside our restaurant in Manchester. We’re looking for an energetic, self-motivated Roastery Manager passionate about coffee and sustainability—environmental and social—to take ownership of day-to-day operations. This is a hands-on role for someone who thrives working independently and can manage everything from roasting to fulfilment and business development.The RoleWe’re looking for someone who will take ownership of the operations of our Manchester Roastery. Working alongside the Head Roaster to execute the day-to-day production of all roasted coffee products maintaining our high standard using Cropster and our Loring S7 Nighthawk. The successful candidate will also be responsible for business development, working to increase our wholesale accounts in Manchester and the North, visiting potential clients, holding cupping events, and demonstrating Caravan’s quality and impact.
Responsibilities
With the guidance of the Head Roaster, execute the day-to-day running of Manchester’s production of all roasted coffee products for Caravan Manchester and any Manchester-based wholesale accounts.Execute timely distribution of our coffee to wholesale customers. Picking, packing and working with courier companies to ensure orders arrive on time in good condition.Follow and maintain target roast profiles for all lines, communicating issues and working with the coffee team to correct them for best performance.Execute and record the regular maintenance of the S7 Loring and all other roasting equipment, and maintain cleanliness and organisation of the roastery area, roasting kit, and green coffee storage area.Utilise and maintain the integrity of Caravan’s Cropster roasting and inventory system, including green coffee distribution, roast profiles, and target KPIs.Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the production floor and quality lab.Conduct QC cuppings of all production roasts using Cropster technology, providing feedback to the Head Roaster to assess any changes required to roast profiles.Maintain stock record keeping and reporting, such as daily and weekly roasted and green coffee stocks. Communicate with the team regarding stock issues.Receive and record green coffee delivered to the roastery.Look for ways to reduce environmental impact by following sustainability frameworks provided by Caravan.Organise workflow efficiently and communicate bottlenecks or areas of concern to the line manager.Support weekly maintenance tasks and maintenance records of the S7 Loring and all other roasting equipment.Support monthly planned preventative maintenance (PPM) tasks, following provided training and record keeping requirements.
Key Business Development Responsibilities
Upkeep of all reporting to support business tracking, from pipelines and forecast files to working with software like Monday.Build and maintain relationships with Caravan customers in North West area.Identify new leads, understand their needs and provide solutions to win the account.Develop and execute business development strategies for the North West region which hit volume and value targets as well as POS and ad hoc targets.Host potential and existing customers for tasting sessions at Manchester Roastery.Provide training to wholesale accounts in accordance with Caravan standards.Financial acumen: Take ownership of your channel, manage the PandL to drive both top-line and bottom-line business performance.
