Your New Company

Our client is responsible for managing and coordinating road space across Scotland''s trunk road network, ensuring essential maintenance and infrastructure works are planned efficiently while minimising disruption to road users. Due to a period of sickness absence within the team, they are seeking a Temporary Road Space Coordinator to join their established team on an initial 3-month contract, with the potential for the role to become permanent to provide additional resilience within the function.

Your New Role

As a Road Space Coordinator, you will play a key role in planning and coordinating roadworks across Scotland''s trunk roads. Working closely with internal stakeholders, contractors and local authorities, you will help ensure works are scheduled effectively, conflicts are avoided and network disruption is kept to a minimum.

You will utilise systems such as the Scottish Road Works Register (SRWR) and, where possible, CMS Traffic Scotland, to manage road space bookings, review planned activities and coordinate works programmes.

This is a hybrid role offering flexibility around working patterns, with an 8-hour working day scheduled between 07:30 and 17:30.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and plan roadworks activities across Scotland''s trunk road network
  • Manage road space applications and bookings through SRWR
  • Review planned works to identify and resolve network conflicts
  • Liaise with contractors, traffic management providers and key stakeholders to minimise disruption
  • Maintain accurate records and updates within relevant systems
  • Support the wider road space coordination team with planning and scheduling activities
  • Ensure works are delivered in accordance with road works legislation and industry requirements

What You''ll Need to Succeed

  • Previous experience coordinating or planning road works, utilities works or traffic management activities
  • Experience using the Scottish Road Works Register (SRWR) is essential
  • Experience using CMS Traffic Scotland would be advantageous
  • Good understanding of road space management and Scottish roadworks procedures
  • Strong IT and administrative skills with confidence using multiple software systems
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a busy team environment

This role would suit someone currently working within a traffic management, highways or utilities environment who is looking to move away from site-based work and into a planning and coordination position. Full support will be provided for someone who is computer-literate, keen to learn and looking to develop their career in a more office-based role.

What You''ll Get in Return

  • Competitive hourly rate (DOE)
  • Hybrid working opportunities
  • Immediate start available
  • Supportive and experienced team environment
  • Potential opportunity for the role to become permanent
  • Valuable experience working on Scotland''s strategic road network
