Overview
Return to Practice Nurse - Royal Free and Barnet Hospital. This is a Band 3 role offered to adult nurses whose Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) registration has lapsed and who are returning to practice. The position supports completing a Return to Practice course at a partner university beginning in January 2024, with successful course completion enabling application for NMC registration and progression to a Band 5 Staff Nurse post within the trust.Indicate your preferred hospital site in the application: Barnet Hospital (Barnet) or Royal Free Hospital (Hampstead). Your placement area will be confirmed after joint interviews and assessments with the university and the trust.Responsibilities
Assist staff in the delivery of direct patient care and undertake skilled nursing activities for which training and competency assessment have been completed.Maintain patient well-being, dignity, confidentiality and privacy; adhere to relevant trust policies and procedures; prioritise care and demonstrate effective communication with patients, relatives and the multidisciplinary team.Contribute to discharge planning; identify changes in patient condition and report promptly to the registered nurse and medical staff; escalate incidents where appropriate.Support ward preparation for admission and ensure bay areas are cleaned on discharge or transfer; assist in orienting patients and visitors.Ensure infection control, isolation and food hygiene policies are followed; act in accordance with the NMC Code of Conduct.Assist with monitoring of patients (vital signs, observations, basic measurements) and support safe manual handling, mobility and patient transfers within Trust guidelines.Maintain patient records in line with NHS Trust and NMC standards and ensure confidentiality of information.Qualifications
Essential: NVQ Level 3 or Diploma Level 3 or equivalent; literacy and numeracy to GCSE level or equivalent; lapsed NMC registration from parts 1 or 2 of the register; willingness to undertake and complete the return to practice course at City University; commitment to ongoing development.Desirable: Achievement of assessor training.Experience
Essential: Previous experience of working with patients in a hospital environment and experience of teamwork.Desirable: Prior experience as an NMC-registered nurse in a hospital setting.Skills and Attributes
Ability to learn new skills quickly; plan and prioritise workload; communicate clearly in writing and verbally; basic IT skills; ability to monitor patients’ vital signs.Desirable: Competence in investigations and procedures such as ECGs, catheterisation, simple dressings.Personal Qualities
