The purpose of the role is to support the Director, Mass Markets by implementing the Retention strategy to generate long-term sustainable growth, cultivate a loyal and engaged donor base, and maximise net revenue.As Retention Marketing Manager, you will be responsible for annual operational planning and delivery across the retention programme, including for emergency appeals. You will work closely with the Director, Mass Markets to create and manage significant annual budgets, ensuring return on investment is maximised. Supported by the Retention Marketing Executive, you will oversee all campaign activity, ensuring that it meets the strategic objectives and financial goals of the department.You will be part of a department focused on excellence, with significant opportunity to lead on change and drive impact and growth.Key Accountabilities

Strategy and planning

Support the Director, Mass Markets in the development and delivery of the retention strategy and prioritiesIdentify, scope and deliver new and innovative opportunities that advance the retention strategyManage retention operational planning, including annual, quarterly and monthly planning sessions, defining key deliverables and ensuring all activity supports the aims of the retention strategyManage the monitoring and reporting framework to track performance against strategic objectivesIdentify and brief support requirements with internal and external partners to maximise activity and ensure smooth back-office operationsBuild and distribute a detailed marketing plan (refreshed quarterly) aligned with strategic priorities and objectives, ensuring activities are co-ordinated and integrated with other Mass Market UK teamsBudget management

Manage segments of the annual budgeting and quarterly reforecasting process, identifying opportunities for savings, additional investment, or budget reallocationFocus on maximising return on investment and advise on contingency action to achieve budgeted income targetsLead on tracking and reconciling retention income and expenditure budget lines, providing variance reporting to support regular financial reportingCampaign management

Oversee, plan and deliver multi-channel revenue and engagement campaigns, including emergencies, ensuring activities inspire and engage supportersOversee customer journeys across segments and products to increase loyalty, average value and product holdingsLead development and management of the mid-level portfolio, including regular communications, donor events, and cultivation of prospects into active donorsEnsure work is completed to standard, on time and within budget and provide overflow support during peak times such as emergenciesCollaborate with counterparts in other markets and the Mass Market support team to coordinate and maximise activityInsight, analysis and data management

Work with Analytics to identify requirements and derive actionable insights from performance dataReview end-of-campaign reports and use findings to inform future activityMonitor day-to-day metrics and act on performance issues and opportunitiesLeadership and management

Line manage and develop the Retention Marketing Executive(s), supporting training and progressionCollaborate with team members to increase cross-team connectivity and create seamless donor progressionManage relationships with external suppliers and prepare quarterly business reviews as requiredGeneral

Keep up to date with sector developments in individual giving and ensure compliance with legislation and regulatory standards (Fundraising Regulator and ICO)Ensure fundraising and marketing is ethical, effective and donor-centricThe role may require travel, overnight stays and occasional out-of-hours work during emergenciesUndertake any additional tasks as requested by the Director, Mass MarketsPerson specification

Experience

Experience and understanding of Individual Giving and retention programmes with a proven revenue and engagement track record across multiple channelsExperience of line managementExperience understanding the creative process and maintaining brand identity across channels and audiencesExperience of operational planning and campaign managementExperience working in a fast-paced, high-performing teamExperience in a centralised, international organisation is advantageousSkills, Knowledge And Qualifications

Understanding of cash and recurring revenue modelsExperience with audience and donor segmentation, analytical modelling (e.g., LTV) and using insights to drive performanceSolutions-focused, proactive approachExcellent verbal and written English with the ability to produce high-quality reportsCommercially minded with ability to balance long-term and short-term objectivesStrong IT skills (Microsoft Office)Numerate with data analysis skills, familiarity with analytical tools (PowerBI)Excellent organisational skills and ability to manage a complex workloadStrong interpersonal skills to influence stakeholdersLanguage Skills: English (fluent).
