Residential Care Worker

Support young people in a homely residential setting, providing day-to-day care, structure, and a safe, therapeutic environment. You''ll help them build confidence, maintain friendships and interests, and develop the skills they need for the future.

Role details

Full UK manual driving licence is essential, with shift-based work including evenings, weekends and sleep-ins.

Overview

As a Residential Care Worker, you''ll provide consistent care, guidance, and support to young people living in the home. You''ll help them follow healthy routines, access education and activities, and feel safe and listened to. The role exists to give young people stability, structure, and trusted adult relationships so they can reach their potential.

What you''ll focus on

- Providing a nurturing, therapeutic home environment with consistent boundaries.
- Supporting healthy routines, education, and social integration for young people.
- Building meaningful, trusting relationships and acting as a positive role model.
- Working collaboratively with colleagues and other professionals around each young person.

Key responsibilities

- Provide day-to-day care, including support with daily routines, getting ready for school, and preparing healthy, balanced meals.
- Support young people''s development through stimulating activities, social and community involvement, and integration into school or education.
- Observe behaviour, engage in meaningful conversations, record significant information, and ensure safeguarding and protection needs are met.
- Use agreed reactive strategies to support behaviour when young people struggle to manage their emotions, helping them feel safe and understood.
- Contribute to reviews, meetings, and care planning, work alongside therapeutic colleagues, and act as a key carer when designated.
- Share practical household tasks, maintain high standards in the home environment, and take responsibility for allocated monies where appropriate.

What we''re looking for

- Full UK manual driving licence.
- Genuine care, compassion, and commitment to working with looked after children.
- Ability to be a positive, consistent role model for young people.
- Strong relationship-building skills and the ability to listen, communicate, and work as part of a team.
- Flexibility to work shifts, including evenings, weekends, and sleep-ins.
- Openness to feedback, supervision, and ongoing personal and professional development.
- Willingness to complete a Level 3 qualification in Children and Young People Workforce.
