Rent Accountant

Job Title: Rent Accountant
Contract: Temporary – 6 months
Hours: Full time
Pay Rate: £225per day (Umbrella)

Overview:
The Rent Accountant will manage rent and service charge accounting processes for legacy Network and SW9, ensuring financial accuracy across transactions worth £160m annually. The role includes posting journals, reconciling bank and control accounts, validating rent settings, and supporting audits. This role also provides leadership to one direct report.

Key Responsibilities:

• Post weekly journals into SUN for rent and service charge transactions.
   
• Reconcile payments from third-party channels, resolving discrepancies.
   
• Review and correct remittances between client codes.
   
• Reconcile weekly NEC interface files to SUN journals.
   
• Undertake weekly reconciliation of Universal Credit receipts.
   
• Support rent setting validation for in-year relets.
   
• Ensure timely allocation of suspense items, refunds, and property-related transactions.
   
• Support internal/external audits with documentation and walkthroughs.
   
• Serve as backup for the Rent and Service Charge Analyst.
   
• Lead one direct report, providing direction, performance management, and development.
   
• Promote inclusion, wellbeing, and continuous improvement within the team.
   

Essential Skills & Experience:

• Part-qualified ACA/CIMA/ACCA or qualified by experience.
   
• Strong knowledge of rent accounting, income management, and regulatory requirements.
   
• Experience in reconciliations, audits, and rent setting.
   
• Excellent communication and reporting skills.
   
• Strong Microsoft Excel and Office skills.
   
• Ability to work independently and manage deadlines.
   

Desirable:

• NEC system experience.
   
• Background in social housing finance.
   
• Experience driving efficiencies and strengthening financial controls.
