Regional Trainer (In Health, Care & Medicines)

Location: Head Office, Vernon Gate, Derby - with frequent travel between other SENAD locations
Responsible to: Head of Group Training & Development
Hours: 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday

Regional Trainer Main Responsibilities: 

To deliver engaging and informative training to staff teams across the SENAD Group in all relevant areas associated with Health, Medicines and Care.

To manage training content, ensuring it meets all statutory and best practice guidance.

Keep accurate delegate attendance records.

To develop and maintain sound working relationships with key managers and stakeholders across all locations where training and advice are delivered.

Regional Trainer Key Tasks: 

1. To deliver training across SENAD Group locations as planned and design the appropriate accompanying training materials. Frequent course delivery will include courses such as: Medication/EMAR, Moving and Handling, Epilepsy, Buccal, Asthma, First Aid, Mental Health First Aid, Autism, Learning Disability, Ligature, Safeguarding and Personal Care (this list is not exhaustive).

2. Become accredited where necessary to deliver the planned core training.

3. Ensure course registers and attendance paperwork are recorded appropriately on the training database, gather frequent course evaluations and update training content/delivery style as appropriate.

4. Develop and maintain knowledge of data protection, confidentiality issues, Looked after Children, medication standards, Mental Health Act, Deprivation of Liberties, Care Standards etc to inform your practice.

5. Develop and maintain positive and productive working relationships with local line managers and senior staff.

6. Develop annual training plans with the Head of Group Training & Development, Lead Trainer, and in consultation with local senior managers and budget holders.

7. Regularly review the content of your training sessions, ensuring the content is engaging, fit for purpose, relevant and up to date.

8. To consider all training feedback and adapt training delivery and style as appropriate.

9. Issue training certificates as appropriate.

10. Complete and update records and training systems of all training sessions delivered.

11. Attend Group management training meetings as requested.

12. Maintain accurate files and reference systems, including key contact names and addresses.

13. Maintain absolute confidentiality and follow all Data Protection guidance and policy.

14. To work within the spirit and intentions of the Equal Opportunities and Equality & Diversity Policy and Procedures at all times.

15. As with all staff, to take joint responsibility for the safeguarding of those in our care and to report any concerns immediately.

16. Any other duties reasonably expected of a Regional Trainer.

Regional Trainer (Health, Care & Medicines) – Person Specification

Essential Criteria

  • Knowledgeable of health care, social care or residential childcare working environments to draw on relevant examples and experiences to inform training content (full support and train the trainer development will be provided to candidates with the relevant technical knowledge)
  • A great verbal communicator, confident and able to learn and pass on training delivery programmes in key Health and Care topics such as First Aid, Moving and Handling, Safeguarding, Autism, Learning Disability, Epilepsy, Buccal, Asthma, Mental Health and Medication Management.
  • Able to travel to all SENAD locations and training venues and in particular across Derbyshire, Northampton and Coventry regularly.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to deliver creative methods of learning that engage an audience.
  • A passion to promote excellence and best practice across all settings in relation to standards of health, care and support for others.
  • At least 3 years of previous work experience in a social care, healthcare or residential childcare setting.
  • Minimum of a relevant Diploma Level 3 (or equivalent), ideally in a relevant discipline within Health, Children’s Residential Services or Adult Social Care.
  • Level 3 Award in Education & Teaching (AET), PTTLS, CTLLS or willingness to work towards.
  • First Aid Certificate, or willing to work towards.
  • Excellent IT and organisational skills with the ability to plan work and training timetables effectively.
  • Highly motivated to encourage staff participation and enthuse learners to improve on their practice.
  • Moving and Handling trainer qualification (or willing to work towards).
  • Reliable and able to deliver an ambitious timetable of training each week.
  • Able to work alone and as part of a training team.
  • Up to date with own CPD and an awareness of changing legislation relating to Health and Social Care.
  • Willing to develop and learn more about each training topic to become an outstanding all-round trainer for children's and adults social care.

Desirable Criteria

  • Previously delivered training in a formal or informal setting (toolbox talks) to staff teams
  • Safeguarding experience and relevant training
  • Health and Safety knowledge
  • An understanding of regulatory authorities such as CQC and Ofsted
  • Social care or Healthcare line management experience
  • Financial awareness and business acumen
  • Health Care / Health Care Assistant qualifications/knowledge.
