Recovery Coordinator

Location: Thurrock

Salary: £26,000 per annum

We welcome applications from local Thurrock residents, including individuals with lived experience and volunteers looking to progress into a Recovery Coordinator role within our drug and alcohol service. This is an excellent opportunity to develop skills, gain experience, and make a positive difference in supporting people on their recovery journey.

About the Role

As a Recovery Coordinator, you will play a vital role in supporting individuals aged 18 and over who are experiencing drug and alcohol-related challenges. Working within an integrated healthcare framework, you will deliver person-centred psychosocial interventions that empower individuals to make positive, sustainable changes and work towards their recovery goals.

You will manage a caseload of service users, undertaking comprehensive assessments, developing risk management plans and creating SMART care plans tailored to each individual's needs. Using a flexible approach that combines harm reduction and abstinence-based interventions, you will provide practical advice, guidance and structured support to help individuals improve their health, wellbeing and quality of life.

Your responsibilities will include delivering structured one-to-one interventions, facilitating group-work sessions and supporting structured treatment programmes. You will use motivational interviewing techniques to engage service users, encourage positive behaviour change and promote long-term recovery.

Building effective partnerships with housing providers, employment services, healthcare professionals, probation, the criminal justice sector and other community organisations will be essential to ensuring continuity of care and addressing the wider needs of the people you support.

You will contribute to service performance targets and positive outcomes, working collaboratively with colleagues, partner agencies and local commissioners to deliver high-quality, recovery-focused services. You will also maintain accurate records, participate in clinical supervision and ensure that safeguarding, equality, diversity and inclusion are embedded in your practice.

Flexibility is important, as the role may occasionally require evening or weekend working, with reasonable notice, to meet service user needs and maintain continuity of care.

About You

You are a compassionate, motivated and recovery-focused professional with experience of working within substance misuse services and a genuine commitment to helping people achieve meaningful, lasting change. You understand that recovery is different for everyone and can adapt your approach to meet individual needs, whether through harm reduction, abstinence-based support or a combination of both.

You will bring experience of conducting comprehensive assessments, developing risk management plans and implementing SMART care plans, alongside the ability to deliver structured psychosocial interventions and facilitate both individual and group sessions. You will be confident using motivational interviewing techniques to build trusting relationships, encourage engagement and support service users to take ownership of their recovery.

You will also have:

  • A sound understanding of substance misuse, addiction, the recovery agenda and the challenges faced by individuals affected by drug and alcohol use.
  • A thorough knowledge of, and commitment to, the 12-step process of recovery from addiction.
  • An understanding of safeguarding, risk management, equality, diversity and inclusion, and the importance of delivering safe, accessible and person-centred services.
  • Knowledge of community support services, holistic care needs and the importance of effective throughcare and continuity of care.
  • An understanding of the criminal justice sector and the needs of individuals accessing support in community or prison settings.
  • Experience of working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams and external partner agencies to improve outcomes for service users.
  • Strong IT, communication, organisational and record-keeping skills, with the ability to manage a caseload effectively and work towards agreed targets.
  • An understanding of NHS health and wellbeing outcomes and the importance of measuring progress and demonstrating positive results.
  • A commitment to reflective practice, professional development and making effective use of clinical supervision.

Above all, you will be non-judgemental, resilient and empathetic, with the ability to build positive relationships with people from diverse backgrounds. You will be passionate about promoting recovery, reducing harm, tackling health inequalities and helping individuals develop the confidence, skills and support networks they need to move forward with their lives.
