Our client is a growing engineering business looking for a proactive and commercially minded Quantity Surveyor to join their team in Manchester.
This is an excellent opportunity for a Quantity Surveyor with around 2 years'' experience, particularly within the water industry, who is looking to develop their commercial career within a supportive and collaborative engineering environment.
Working closely with Project Managers, Design Engineers and the wider commercial team, you will support the commercial management of projects from inception through to completion. You will play an important role in monitoring project costs, managing commercial risk, supporting profitability and maintaining strong relationships with clients and subcontractors.
The Role
As Quantity Surveyor, your responsibilities will include:
- Preparing, submitting and tracking applications for payment.
- Monitoring certificates, invoices and payment schedules.
- Raising Early Warning Notices and managing changes and project variations.
- Assisting with project estimates, cost forecasts and cost plans.
- Producing and presenting monthly Cost Value Reconciliations (CVRs).
- Monitoring project costs, purchase orders and overall commercial performance.
- Reviewing contracts and supporting the team in meeting contractual obligations.
- Preparing subcontract documentation and supporting subcontract management.
- Monitoring commercial progress against project programmes.
- Building effective relationships with client commercial teams.
- Identifying commercial risks and opportunities throughout the project lifecycle.
- Supporting the wider commercial team with day-to-day Quantity Surveying activities.
About You
We are looking for someone who is commercially aware, organised and keen to develop their career within a project-focused environment.
You will ideally have:
- At least 2 years'' experience working as a Quantity Surveyor within the water industry.
- A degree or equivalent qualification in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline.
- A good understanding of commercial processes and project cost management.
- A good understanding of NEC3/NEC4 contracts.
- Strong numerical and analytical skills.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
- The ability to manage multiple priorities and work to deadlines.
- Experience with payment applications, cost management and change/variation processes.
Experience with different contract forms, estimating, cost planning and commercial negotiations would also be beneficial.
