Start Date: ASAP

Rate: £300-£375 a day inside of IR35

Contract Duration: 6+ Months (Potential to Extend)

The Opportunity
A prestigious UK top-tier main contractor is seeking an experienced Freelance Quantity Surveyor to support the delivery of a large new build education facility near Yeovil. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a high-performing site-based commercial team on a standout project in the Somerset area.
You will be working directly under a site-based Lead Quantity Surveyor, taking responsibility for the commercial management of large subcontract packages, from procurement through to final account.

Key Responsibilities

• Commercial management of major subcontract packages (e.g. M&E, façade, groundworks, structural frame)
• Preparation and management of tender processes for allocated packages
• Subcontractor procurement, negotiation, and contract administration
• Valuations, variations, and change management
• Accurate cost reporting and forecasting, supporting monthly CVRs
• Management of interim payments and final accounts
• Ensuring contractual compliance and managing risk and opportunity within packages
• Liaison with the site team, design, and planning departments to align commercial and project goals
• Supporting the Lead Quantity Surveyor in all day-to-day commercial functions
• Contributing to cost control, reporting systems, and overall project delivery efficiency

• Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor working on large-scale new build construction projects
• Demonstrable experience managing large subcontract packages end-to-end
• Strong knowledge of standard forms of contract (particularly JCT)
• Able to work autonomously on-site, reporting into the Lead QS
• Excellent communication, negotiation, and reporting skills
• Degree-qualified or equivalent in Quantity Surveying or Construction Management
