About the Role

This permanent Quantity Surveyor / Commercial Manager - RAIL post sits with a long-established PQS practice, based in London's West End or on a client site. Duties span commercial management across rail schemes, supporting delivery teams, assessing cost variations and liaising with supply chain partners and contractors. Applicants need quantity surveying background plus NEC contract exposure, ideally within rail. The successful candidate offers independent judgement to the Head of Commercial. Salary ranges from £50,000 to £80,000, supplemented by pension, RICS support and further benefits. Strong communication, cost control and negotiation abilities are essential for this position.

THE ROLE

My client seeks a Quantity Surveyor / Commercial Manager to join their London office or to work in a client office on rail projects.

You must have experience of quantity surveying and commercial management duties and have either Rail experience using NEC contracts.

You will support the delivery of commercial activities within the delivery teams and you will work alongside the supply chain and contractors to provide cost variation assessment and other commercial activites.

You will provide an independent view to their Head of the Commercial team.

THE COMPANY

My client is a long established busy firm of PQS with several offices.

My client works on projects for infrastructure and also for buildings.

THE CANDIDATE

You will be a Quantity Surveyor / Commercial Manager who has good experience of working on RAIL related projects.

You should have a BSc or similar in Quantity Surveying.

You may be RICS qualified or have good Rail commercial management experience.

You will have in excess of four / five years quantity surveying experience.

You should have both pre contract and post contract quantity surveying experience.

You must have knowledge in the use of NEC3 contracts and ideally some NEC4.

Experience of doing Cost Variation Assessments and Commercial Audit would be useful.

At more senior level you should be able to supervise more junior level QSs.

Salaries will be between £50000 and £80000 plus good benefits and be negotiable according to your level of experience. Other large company benefits will also be given along with pension, RICS fees, subsidised gym membership and other benefits.
