We are recruiting for an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join our client who is looking to grow their team currently. This role is based in the civil engineering sector and is ideal for a candidate who has over 5-10 years as a Quantity Surveyor.

Role Purpose
The Quantity Surveyor is responsible for the commercial management of multiple civil engineering projects from contract award through to final account. The successful candidate will ensure projects are delivered profitably whilst maintaining excellent client relationships, managing commercial risk, and supporting operational teams to achieve successful project outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the commercial aspects of multiple civil engineering and infrastructure projects.
  • Prepare, submit and agree interim valuations and applications for payment.
  • Identify, price and negotiate variations and compensation events.
  • Prepare and manage project budgets, cost plans and cash flow forecasts.
  • Monitor project costs, profitability and commercial performance.
  • Procure subcontractors and suppliers, including preparing enquiries, analysing quotations and negotiating orders.
  • Administer subcontract agreements, valuations and final accounts.
  • Prepare monthly cost value reconciliation (CVR) reports.
  • Manage final accounts with clients and subcontractors.
  • Ensure compliance with NEC, JCT and bespoke contract conditions where applicable.
  • Identify commercial risks and implement mitigation strategies.
  • Work closely with Project Managers and Site Managers to maximise project performance.
  • Maintain accurate commercial records and project documentation.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants and supply chain partners.
  • Support estimating and tendering activities where required.
  • Skills & Experience

Essential

  • Degree, HNC/HND or equivalent qualification in Quantity Surveying or Construction Management.
  • Previous experience as a Quantity Surveyor within civil engineering, highways or infrastructure.
  • Strong understanding of NEC and/or JCT contracts.
  • Excellent commercial awareness and negotiation skills.
  • Strong analytical and financial management abilities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.

Desirable

  • Membership of RICS, CIOB or working towards professional accreditation.
  • Experience working on highways, drainage, civil engineering, public realm, water or utility projects.
  • Knowledge of CEMAR or other contract management software.
  • Experience managing multiple live projects simultaneously.
