QUALITY INSPECTOR (Mechanical - CMM / Advanced Inspection)

ABOUT THE ROLE
We''re recruiting on behalf of a specialist engineering and manufacturing organisation producing high-precision mechanical components for critical global applications, delivering advanced technologies for maritime, energy, environmental, and defence sectors.
This is a hands-on quality inspection role within a well-established engineering environment. You will ensure machined parts and assemblies meet strict drawing, specification, and certification requirements.
Working as part of a Quality team, you will inspect in-house and subcontracted components, support root cause investigations, and help maintain high manufacturing standards.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Inspect mechanical parts and assemblies from in-house machining and subcontract suppliers
- Use manual inspection tools and 3-axis ABERLINK AXIOM CMM equipment (including programming where required)
- Verify components against engineering drawings, specifications, and certification requirements
- Conduct PMI testing and Chemical Etching as required
- Identify and report non-conformances using internal systems
- Raise reject reports and escalate quality issues appropriately
- Liaise with engineers and suppliers to resolve quality issues
- Support supplier visits and audits when required
- Ensure correct documentation and certification accompanies all components
- Inspect coils, cables, battery packs, and assemblies for visual and functional conformity
- Check labelling, crimp integrity, and basic assembly quality
- Support prototype inspection with design/development engineers
- Maintain inspection equipment and ensure calibration compliance
- Update ERP system (Syspro) with inspection results and quality records
- Prioritise workload based on production and subcontract demands
- Always Follow all Health & Safety procedures
ABOUT YOU
- Detail-oriented quality or manufacturing professional
- Confident interpreting engineering drawings and specifications
- Comfortable working in a structured manufacturing environment
- Strong communicator across engineering, production, and supplier teams
- Proactive, methodical, and quality-focused
ESSENTIAL SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
- Experience in an engineering or manufacturing inspection role
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
- Experience using mechanical inspection tools (gauges, micrometers, etc.)
- Exposure to CMM inspection (ABERLINK essential)
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Good IT skills (Microsoft Office and ERP systems)
- GCSE (or equivalent) in Maths and English
DESIRABLE SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
- Experience programming or operating CMM equipment
- Knowledge of precision mechanical / pressure vessel components
- Familiarity with PMI testing or Chemical Etching
- Understanding of ESD requirements
- Experience working with suppliers or supporting audits
- Exposure to electrical sub-assemblies (cables, PCBs, battery packs)
