Quality Engineer (Mechanical or Electrical) - Nuclear Enrichment Facility (North West)
Rate: -60 per hour (Umbrella PAYE)
Location: North West
Working Pattern: 3 days on-site / 2 days remote
Start: ASAP (subject to security clearances, currently taking 8-10 weeks)

Overview
We are recruiting for an experienced Quality Engineer (Mechanical or Electrical) to support a major Nuclear Enrichment Facility in the North West. This role will work closely with engineering and project delivery teams, ensuring mechanical and electrical installation, commissioning and engineering activities are delivered in line with the highest quality standards.
This is an excellent opportunity for engineers with experience in the nuclear, defence, energy, utilities or other highly regulated industries.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide quality support across mechanical and electrical engineering activities.
- Ensure engineering works comply with project specifications, quality plans, codes, standards and regulatory requirements.
- Carry out audits, inspections, surveillance and witness activities on suppliers, subcontractors and site works.
- Review engineering documentation including ITPs, inspection records, quality plans and manufacturing record books.
- Raise, investigate and close NCRs, supporting root cause analysis and corrective actions.
- Work closely with engineering, construction and commissioning teams to resolve quality issues.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and ensure compliance with the project Quality Management System.
Essential Requirements
- Previous experience as a Quality Engineer supporting mechanical and/or electrical engineering projects.
- Background within nuclear, defence, power generation, utilities, oil & gas, process, rail or other regulated industries.
- Good understanding of Quality Management Systems (ISO 9001) and quality assurance processes.
- Experience undertaking audits, inspections and quality surveillance.
- Knowledge of NCR management, root cause analysis and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications and technical documentation.
- Eligible to obtain UK Security Clearance (SC).
Qualifications
Candidates should hold one or more of the following:
- HNC/HND or Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- Recognised engineering apprenticeship with relevant industry experience.
- Lead Auditor/Internal Auditor qualification (desirable).
- Membership of a recognised engineering institution (IEng/CEng or working towards) is advantageous.
Desirable
- Previous experience on nuclear new build, enrichment or defence programmes.
- Knowledge of mechanical or electrical installation and commissioning quality requirements.
- Familiarity with ASME, ISO, BS EN or other relevant engineering standards.
- Lean Six Sigma or equivalent continuous improvement qualification.
