Quality Engineer – Plymouth (Devonport Royal Dockyard)
Contract: Full-time, 42.5 hours per week (08:00–17:00)

Carmichael UK is recruiting for an experienced Quality Engineer to join a major infrastructure redevelopment programme at a high-security Royal Navy site in Plymouth. This is an excellent long-term opportunity to support the delivery of complex works within a live MOD facility.
The RoleAs a Quality Engineer, you will support project delivery teams by ensuring that robust quality management processes are embedded, maintained, and continuously improved throughout the project lifecycle.
You will act as a key point of independent quality assurance across site activities, supporting progressive handover, maintaining compliance, and ensuring that work meets strict regulatory, technical, and client standards.

This role requires SC-level security clearance. Candidates must:
- Hold a passport from a NATO or MISWG member country
- Have lived in the UK for the past 5 years
Security checks may take up to 8 weeks to process.
- Ensuring the Quality Management System is implemented effectively across the project
- Providing independent communication on quality issues and ensuring appropriate resolutions
- Completing internal audits in line with the Audit Schedule and closing out findings promptly
- Preparing, reviewing, and evaluating Inspection & Test Plans (including subcontractor ITPs)
- Supporting progressive sign-off of ITPs and attending weekly client meetings
- Managing the material approval process and verifying delivered materials meet project requirements
- Reviewing Lifetime Quality Records and supporting timely handover documentation
- Offering guidance, support, and mentoring on quality standards and processes
- Delivering training on Quality Management System requirements
- Encouraging and investigating feedback and improvement recommendations
- Monitoring and reporting on NCR trends to Project and Quality Leadership
- Promoting a culture of continuous improvement across the project
- Academic qualification in Civil Engineering, Quality, or Construction (HNC, BSc, MSc, BEng, MEng)
- CSCS White PQP/AQP
- Experience in quality roles within construction or infrastructure environments
- Strong understanding of quality systems, audits, and progressive assurance
- Ability to work within high-security, highly regulated environments
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
