Qualified Secondary Teacher – SEN School (Kings Heath)

Are you a passionate and experienced Qualified Secondary Teacher looking to make a real difference in the lives of young people with special educational needs? We are currently working with a well-established SEN school in the Kings Heath area that is seeking a dedicated teacher to join their team. This is a fantastic opportunity for a committed professional who thrives in a supportive and rewarding environment.

About the School

Located in the heart of Kings Heath, this is a specialist SEN provision catering for students aged 11–16 with a range of needs including:

  • Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

  • Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)

  • Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs

  • Challenging behaviour

The school prides itself on providing a nurturing, inclusive, and structured learning environment, where every student is supported to achieve both academically and personally. With small class sizes, excellent staff-to-student ratios, and a strong multi-disciplinary team, this is a school where staff can truly make an impact.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Deliver engaging, differentiated lessons in line with the national curriculum adapted to meet individual needs

  • Develop and implement individual education plans (IEPs) in collaboration with the SENCO and support staff

  • Manage classroom behaviour positively and proactively, following the school’s behaviour policy

  • Work closely with Teaching Assistants and external professionals

  • Monitor and assess student progress, providing regular feedback to parents and carers

  • Contribute to the wider school community and participate in training and development

Requirements

  • Must hold QTS (Qualified Teacher Status)
  • Proven experience teaching in a secondary setting
  • Experience working within an SEN environment, particularly with ASD, ADHD, and behavioural needs
  • A strong understanding of differentiation, sensory needs, and emotional regulation strategies
  • Excellent communication, resilience, and behaviour management skills
  • Must hold an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one)
