Role Overview:
Bury Council is seeking an experienced Independent Reviewing Officer (IRO) to provide an impartial and professional chairing service for multi-agency and departmental meetings relating to Child Protection and Looked After Children.
As an IRO, you will play a crucial role in facilitating effective inter-agency working, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements, and promoting high standards of practice to safeguard children and support their families.
Key Responsibilities:
- Chair multi-agency and departmental meetings for Child Protection and Looked After Children cases
- Promote and monitor adherence to statutory requirements and Child Protection procedures
- Ensure a consistent, high-quality service for children and families receiving support
- Facilitate effective communication and joint working between professionals and agencies
- Provide independent oversight, challenge, and accountability to ensure children’s voices are heard
What You’ll Need:
- Social Work Qualification and Social Work England Registration
- Substantial post-qualified experience in children’s social care
- Strong knowledge of Child Protection procedures and statutory requirements for Looked After Children
- Excellent chairing, communication, and negotiation skills
- Ability to remain impartial while ensuring best outcomes for children

- Locum role within Bury Council Children’s Services
- Pay up to £40 per hour
