Role Overview:
Bury Council is seeking an experienced Independent Reviewing Officer (IRO) to provide an impartial and professional chairing service for multi-agency and departmental meetings relating to Child Protection and Looked After Children.

As an IRO, you will play a crucial role in facilitating effective inter-agency working, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements, and promoting high standards of practice to safeguard children and support their families.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Chair multi-agency and departmental meetings for Child Protection and Looked After Children cases
  • Promote and monitor adherence to statutory requirements and Child Protection procedures
  • Ensure a consistent, high-quality service for children and families receiving support
  • Facilitate effective communication and joint working between professionals and agencies
  • Provide independent oversight, challenge, and accountability to ensure children’s voices are heard

What You’ll Need:

  • Social Work Qualification and Social Work England Registration
  • Substantial post-qualified experience in children’s social care
  • Strong knowledge of Child Protection procedures and statutory requirements for Looked After Children
  • Excellent chairing, communication, and negotiation skills
  • Ability to remain impartial while ensuring best outcomes for children

Contract Details:

  • Locum role within Bury Council Children’s Services
  • Pay up to £40 per hour
  • Hybrid working available
