The role of Psychology Graduate SEN Teaching Assistant offers the perfect opportunity to build practical experience supporting pupils with Special Educational Needs (SEN), making it an excellent first step for aspiring Educational Psychologists, Clinical Psychologists, Speech & Language Therapists, Counsellors, or other SEN professionals. You''ll play an important role in helping students in Milton Keynes overcome barriers to learning while developing the skills and experience needed for a future career in psychology or education.

Working alongside experienced teaching staff and SEN specialists, you''ll support pupils with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), speech and language needs, and a range of additional learning needs. Your role will involve providing both classroom support and targeted one-to-one interventions, helping students build confidence, independence, and achieve their full potential.

Key Responsibilities of Psychology Graduate SEN Teaching Assistant

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support for pupils with ASD and additional learning needs
  • Assist teachers in delivering engaging, differentiated lessons and learning activities
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and nurturing classroom environment
  • Build strong, supportive relationships that encourage pupil engagement and wellbeing
  • Promote students'' social, emotional, and academic development throughout the school day
  • Support behaviour management strategies and individual learning plans
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, the SENCO, therapists, and the wider school team

Candidate Requirements of Psychology Graduate SEN Teaching Assistant

  • A degree in Psychology or a related subject
  • A genuine passion for supporting children with Special Educational Needs
  • Previous experience working with children or in an SEN setting is desirable
  • An understanding of ASD and speech and language needs is advantageous
  • Patient, empathetic, and resilient with a positive attitude
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Reliable, proactive, and adaptable
