OverviewPsychological Wellbeing Practitioner (PWP) – IAPT Lewisham

We are looking for an enthusiastic, conscientious and creative PWP with excellent clinical skills to join our large, well established service. The role involves high volume low intensity CBT-based interventions, telephone triage assessments, and opportunities to pursue special interests such as community projects, workshops and groups, with regular supervision.

Responsibilities

Accept referrals via agreed service protocols and develop programmes of care.

Assess and support people with common mental health problems in self-management of recovery.

Conduct patient-centred interviews to identify desired changes, assess risk, and determine referral suitability; manage step-up/step-down within a stepped care framework.

Educate and involve family and others in treatment as appropriate.

Provide information and support for high-volume low-intensity treatments, including guided self-help and computerised CBT; may be delivered face-to-face, by telephone or other media.

Integrate work and employment issues into the therapy process; maintain an inclusive values base that respects diversity.

Maintain an activity contract to minimise waiting times and ensure accessible treatment delivery; attend multidisciplinary meetings as required.

Complete data collection, maintain accurate records, and use outcomes data in clinical decision making.

Prepare and present clinical information for caseloads to clinical/case management supervisors; respond to supervision suggestions and engage in professional development.

Maintain professional standards, protect client confidentiality, stay up-to-date with low intensity treatments, and participate in CPD activities.

Contribute to best practice within the service and stay informed about relevant legislation and policies.

QualificationsEssential

Qualification from PWP training course (e.g. Post Graduate Diploma in Low Intensity Cognitive Behavioural Interventions).

Desirable

Psychology or other health-related undergraduate degree.

ExperienceEssential

Working in an IAPT service or similar with agreed targets and demonstrated clinical outcomes.

Experience using electronic clinical records and data collection systems.

Experience working with people who have experienced a mental health problem.

Desirable

Experience working in the local community.

Skills and Competencies

Ability to provide Low Intensity CBT interventions using both paper and computer-based materials.

Computer literate with excellent verbal and written skills.

Ability to manage a caseload, work under pressure, use supervision appropriately, and work well as part of a team.

Knowledge

Understanding of Depression and Anxiety and how they present in Primary Care.

Understanding of evidence-based practice and its relevance to this post.

Other requirements

High level of enthusiasm and motivation; willingness to travel to locations throughout the organisation.
