The Client:
A successful and well-established civil engineering and construction contractor delivering a wide variety of schemes across London and the South East. Specialising in highways, infrastructure, and public realm projects, the company has a strong track record of working with both private and public sector clients to deliver works safely, efficiently, and to the highest standards. As part of continued growth and ongoing long-term client relationships, they are seeking an experienced Project Manager to join their delivery team.

The Role:
As Project Manager, you’ll take responsibility for planning, delivering, and managing a range of highways and civil engineering schemes across London – with project values typically ranging from £2,500 to £1.5m. Based partly from a soon-to-be-established London office in Greenwich, partly on site, and with regular travel to the company’s Chelmsford HQ, you’ll oversee operations from start to finish. This role offers an immediate start for the right candidate and requires a hands-on manager with a strong background in similar works, ideally gained with a subcontractor or tier 1 contractor.

Responsibilities:
• Manage resources effectively to ensure projects are completed to programme, budget, and H&S standards.
• Deliver against time, cost, and quality targets in line with company processes and procedures.
• Liaise closely with clients, stakeholders, and internal teams to ensure compliance with policies, standards, and industry legislation.
• Lead and coordinate project teams, subcontractors, and supply chain partners to achieve successful outcomes.
• Oversee the creation and maintenance of Construction Phase Plans, RAMS, method statements, and safe systems of work.
• Ensure subcontractor teams are fully trained and competent.
• Work with commercial teams to monitor and improve the financial performance of projects.
• Keep accurate records, including site diaries, resource allocations, and as-built information.
• Support the development of construction programmes, phasing plans, and methodology.
• Ensure compliance with CDM regulations and conduct regular site safety inspections and audits.

Qualifications & Experience:
• Civil Engineering / Highways or related qualification – NRSWA Supervisor, SSSTS, SMSTS and/or CSCS desirable.
• Proven track record in managing highways or civil engineering projects in a subcontractor or tier 1 contractor environment.
• Experience working with clients such as local authorities or major contractors (e.g. FM Conway, Ringway, Riney, Marlborough).
• Strong leadership and organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
• Experience in programming works and using relevant software.
• Sound understanding of health & safety legislation and compliance.
• Flexible to work occasional night shifts when required.

Salary & Package:
• PAYE salary circa £50,000 per annum or equivalent CIS day rate.
• Company vehicle (truck) and fuel card provided for business use.
• Company pension and on-site parking.
• Full-time, permanent or freelance engagement available.

Location:
• Projects predominantly based in London (Central and South West), with travel between the company’s Chelmsford HQ, Greenwich office, and various site locations.
