We have an opportunity in our Engineering Team for a Civil Engineer to support our multi-disciplinary portfolio of works in our Civils Asset Management (CAM), nationwide.
Working closely with our clients, design consultants and delivery teams, you will play a key role in the coordination of Engineering Design activities for a wide range of projects.
Your Responsibilities:
As a Project Manager (Design) you will be responsible for the coordination of permanent and temporary works design and the interface with the construction teams.
Working on framework contracts for our client Network Rail and others, projects will include a wide variety of design and build projects.
Working with our Engineering Team, you will take responsibility for the day-to-day management and coordination of technical and engineering activities.
Reviewing and approving design submissions, liaising with design consultants and our in-house delivery teams, and contributing to monthly meetings with our client’s project team to progress design projects to a successful conclusion.
A key function of the role will be reviewing sub-contract designer’s deliverables to ensure designs fulfil the clients remit and comply with the standards and regulations applicable to the contract, considering constructability, third party interfaces and Safe by Design principles.
Knowledge of railway standards and demonstrable experience delivering projects in a rail environment is essential. Ideally the candidate will have been approved in CEM roles previously, and hold a relevant engineering qualification.
The location is flexible – The role can be split between our offices in Leeds and Sheffield, including some flexibility working from home when the appointee has become established in the company.
The role will provide exposure to all kinds of engineering problems on the railway infrastructure, where you will play a key role in developing renewals and maintenance solutions for bridges, culverts, earthworks, platforms, station buildings and much more!
Person Specification:
To be successful in the role you will be able to maintain and develop client relationships on the basis of mutual trust and high standards of project performance, promoting existing and new work opportunities.
Essential:
- Degree level education in an engineering or construction discipline or able to demonstrate suitable experience.
- Able to demonstrate previous experience in a professional engineering role including relevant experience in the UK rail sector
- Clear and effective communication skills
- Excellent organisational skills
Desirable:
- Preferably holding a IEng or CEng qualification with the Institution of Civil Engineers or Structural Engineers or working towards that status.
- Railway Safety Qualification – Personal Track Safety (PTS) is preferred but training can be provided.
- Preferably have the necessary qualifications, skills and experience for acceptance by Network Rail as Contractors Responsible Engineer (CRE) in either Design or Construction disciplines or to have been appointed as CRE or Contractors Engineering Manager (CEM) in the past.
- We are open to candidates that may not have all the experience, qualifications or skills outlined, but feel they have attributes in other areas that will bring additional value to the role.
- CML operate an ICE approved training scheme to develop employees to all levels of engineering competence from engineering technician (MICE EngTech) to fully chartered status (MICE CEng)
