Project Engineer
Location: Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria, with travel to multiple sites across the North West, nationally and offshore.
Salary: £35,000–£50,000 per annum depending on experience
Hours: Full-time, 42.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 8:00am – 5:00pm (including a 30-minute break).
The Role
The Project Engineer is responsible for planning, coordinating and delivering civil and marine engineering projects, ensuring they are completed safely, on time, within budget and to the required quality standards. The role provides technical engineering support, manages project activities, and ensures compliance with engineering, commercial, health, safety, environmental and client requirements throughout the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver civil and marine engineering projects, providing practical engineering solutions.
- Programme, monitor and coordinate project activities to ensure safe, timely and cost-effective delivery.
- Provide technical engineering support to the Project Delivery Team, reviewing engineering designs, technical documentation and construction methodologies.
- Coordinate project delivery, ensuring engineering, commercial, quality, health, safety and environmental requirements are met.
- Liaise with clients, subcontractors, suppliers and other project stakeholders.
- Monitor project costs, manage variations and support commercial performance.
- Produce project progress reports covering programme, financial and technical performance.
- Identify and manage project risks and control changes in accordance with company procedures.
- Ensure all work complies with approved procedures, method statements, risk assessments, legislation and contractual requirements.
- Coordinate project teams and site personnel, ensuring inductions, familiarisation and site briefings are completed.
- Support tender and pre-construction activities with technical input.
- Drive continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to improve safety, quality and project delivery.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Experience delivering civil, marine or construction projects.
- Qualification in Civil Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- Strong project planning and organisational skills.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a project team.
- Good commercial awareness and problem-solving ability.
- Sound understanding of civil engineering principles and construction methods.
- Experience coordinating contractors, suppliers and project stakeholders.
- Ability to obtain and maintain DBS or security clearance where required.
Essential Qualifications
- Degree, HNC/HND or equivalent in Civil Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- Project Management qualification (PRINCE2, APM PMQ or equivalent) or significant project management experience.
- SMSTS.
- CSCS Black Manager Card or Professionally Qualified Person (PQP) Card.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
