This role involves travel to Plymouth and offers a full-time, permanent engagement for an individual experienced in hydro-mechanical systems, particularly penstock and valve integration.
The successful candidate will blend design, calculation, specification writing, and on-site engineering support.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and integration of penstocks, valves, gates, and associated hydro-mechanical equipment
- Carry out structural and hydraulic calculations, including thrust block and leakage analysis
- Prepare and review general arrangement drawings, fabrication details, and installation drawings
- Produce technical specifications, scope documents, and project reports
- Support procurement by reviewing supplier designs and documentation
- Ensure compliance with relevant standards, codes, and project requirements
- Create accurate 2D/3D models and drawings using CAD software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Inventor, or similar)
- Manage drawing revisions and contribute to design reviews
- Liaise with internal teams, suppliers, and contractors to ensure buildability and quality
- Provide engineering support during manufacturing, installation, and commissioning
- Site work, conducting inspections, surveys, and problem-solving
Job Requirements:
Essential skills and experience:
- Degree (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related discipline
- Ideally have experience with hydro-mechanical systems (penstocks, valves, or similar)
- Competency in thrust and leakage calculations
- Proficiency in drafting and 3D modelling software
- Experience in specification writing and technical reporting
- Full UK driving licence
- Willingness and flexibility to work off-site as required
Desirable skills:
- Familiarity with hydro, water, or infrastructure projects
- Experience liaising directly with fabricators and installation teams
- Knowledge of relevant design standards (BS, EN, or equivalent)
