Project Design Engineer
We are working with a well-established engineering business seeking a Project Design Engineer based in Ipswich. This is an excellent and diverse opportunity for an experienced engineer who can work independently and collaboratively, providing mechanical design and engineering support across the business while contributing to product development and technical advancement.
This role would suit someone who enjoys taking ownership of projects, can see the bigger picture, and thrives in a hands-on manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Produce 3D CAD models using Autodesk Inventor and 2D manufacturing drawings using AutoCAD.
- Design components and assemblies with a strong understanding of manufacturability and functional requirements.
- Produce accurate manufacturing drawings for:
- Sheet metal fabrication including profiling, laser cutting, and folding
- Machined components and assemblies
- Manage projects from sales order through to commissioning, including BOMs, layout drawings, and specifications.
- Undertake in-house testing, support factory testing, and assist with on-site commissioning activities.
- Provide technical support to internal departments, service engineers, and customers.
- Prepare and maintain project documentation, spares drawings, and O&M manuals, ensuring compliance and effective document control.
- Assist with inspections, investigations, and warranty-related activities as required.
Candidate Requirements
- Previous experience in a mechanical design engineering role.
- Strong understanding of:
- Sheet metal design and manufacture (profiling, laser cutting, folding)
- Machining processes and manufacturing drawing creation
- Degree (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Product Design, or a related discipline.
- Proficient in Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office.
- Strong mathematics and physics knowledge.
- Organised, methodical, and capable of managing workload independently.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to think beyond the immediate task and understand the wider project and business objectives.

Additional Information
- 37.5 hours per week
- Half day Friday
