Trainee Production Operative

Location:  Vetchberry, Witton, Birmingham

Salary:  £26,000 per year

Vacancy Type: Permanent, Full Time (38.5 hours per week)

Vetchberry Steels is looking for a motivated and reliable Trainee Machine Operative to join our Birmingham site.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to start or build a career in manufacturing, with full training provided on our cut-to-length steel processing machinery and traverse machine.

Monday-Thursday 7:30am-4:15pm 
Fridays 7:30am-1pm

This role is is based at Vetchberry Steels, Sapcote Trading Centre, Wyrley Rd, Birmingham B6 7BN.
Please check you are able to commute to the site for the shifts before applying.

Key Responsibilities

• Operating and setting cut-to-length machinery or our traverse machine (full training provided)
• Measuring and cutting metal to customer specifications
• Ensuring quality standards are met at all times
• Maintain production records and complete required documentation
• Operate Overhead crane when authorised and in accordance with Company training records
• Loading and unloading coils on a machine line safely
• Driving forklift trucks when authorised and in accordance with Company training records
• Ensure cleanliness of work areas
• Follow safety protocols and maintain a clean work area
• Reporting quality, damage, shortages and overages
• Maintaining all metal traceability systems
• Recycle metal scrap into correct bins. Recycle any packaging waste into correct bins. Report any damage, shortage and overages to the Operations Manager
• Other warehouse duties as and when required

No prior experience is required – we’re looking for the right attitude.
