Production Engineer

My Dudley based client is looking for a Production Engineer that will support all manufacturing areas with analysis and cost-effective improvements to their production processes helping to support the improvements in efficiencies, elimination of waste, production Quality and lead times along with working to build cross functional links and strong communication channels throughout the departments.

Main Duties

  • Implement changes to the business and manufacturing systems and processes to improve efficiency, eliminate waste and improve quality and lead times.
  • Identify and manage changes to the facilities to benefit the operation and resolve any systemic & working environment issues.
  • Proactively define, implement and refine the production processes, layout and facilities at the West Molesey site and other Volution Ventilation UK sites as project needs require.
  • Define production processes for new products, including the assembly process, layout, facility, & designing, producing or purchasing tooling & test equipment. Work collaboratively with all departments involved to achieve an effective process.
  • Identify and implement improvements to the production process in order to improve quality, improve delivery performance and increase efficiencies.
  • Ensure production processes are safe by design and are being followed, in line with safety regulations and good practice.
  • Investigate advanced manufacturing techniques and technology to recommend investment and changes to production processes, with the objective of improving production performance, efficiency and quality.
  • Create production work instructions.
  • Support production to identify skills required to deliver the production processes.
  • Support production through technical problem solving as and when required within an escalation process.
  • Manage the process of introducing new products, design changes and improvements into production, acting as the interface between design engineering and production.
  • Manage the costs for new products during the development phase, through to production startup
  • Analyse current product costs, in order to identify cost improvement initiatives, ensuring cost reduction proposals do not compromise quality
  • Working alongside purchasing, manufacturing and R&D Technical in support of company wide & cross functional initiatives
  • Work alongside R&D / Technical to identify and prioritise, based upon benefit, changes to the product design in order to improve the overall cost and quality of production, or including changes improving delivery lead time of products. This can include designing changes to products and obtaining R&D / Technical approval prior to proceeding
  • Work with suppliers and production to understand available production techniques, and liaise with R&D / Technical to ensure product architecture and designs are such that they can be manufactured in the most efficient manner, using available technology and techniques
  • Work with suppliers, purchasing and R&D / Technical to ensure parts design and methods of delivery minimise shipping costs, storage costs and in transit damage
  • To assist in the design, installation, repair and procurement of production test equipment
  • Support production in resolving general production issues; drawing changes etc.
  • Support production in the resolution of quality or technical problems
  • Undertake preliminary investigations into quality and technical issues, and assist in the appropriate, implementation corrective actions process
  • Ensure production tooling conforms to the required specifications
  • Own master data relating to production timings in the operating system.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Qualification or degree in an Engineering based discipline (or equivalent)
  • Proven experience in mechanical engineering and electrical engineering
  • Experience in the manufacture of electro mechanical assemblies in high volume environments.
  • Experience in production / Process engineering
  • Demonstrate knowledge of continuous improvements such as 5s and kaizen
  • knowledge and understanding of SPC, Six Sigma, OEE and lean systems
  • CAD – SolidWorks, Com
