Our client, a specialist precision engineering manufacturer, is looking for an experienced Production Support Technician to provide hands-on technical engineering support across machining and production.
This role sits between Engineering and Operations, supporting machinists, solving production issues, improving processes and ensuring engineering requirements are correctly implemented throughout manufacture.
 
The role:

• Provide hands-on technical engineering support to CNC machining and production teams
• Support the introduction of new and existing products into manufacture
• Identify and resolve engineering issues before and during production
• Provide technical leadership, coaching and support to machinists
• Improve machining processes to increase efficiency and machine utilisation
• Support CNC programming and programme optimisation
• Use CAD/CAM systems to support production requirements
• Review tooling, manufacturing methods and machining processes
• Carry out gap analysis and support accurate ERP system updates
• Apply structured problem-solving and continuous-improvement techniques
• Support non-conformance processes and raise NCRs where required
• Work closely with Production, Operations and Planning to resolve bottlenecks
• Support familiarisation and technical training where required

• Strong technical engineering background within a precision machining environment
• Extensive knowledge of CNC machine capabilities and production processes
• Multi-axis CNC machining experience
• Experience setting work, selecting tooling and editing CNC programmes
• Strong knowledge of tooling and its application
• Experience machining complex precision components
• Experience working with difficult-to-machine materials
• Strong understanding of GD&T
• Ability to self-inspect components and measure critical tolerances/features
• Good understanding of CNC programming codes
• Ability to coach and support machinists
• Strong problem-solving and continuous-improvement mindset

• Apprentice trained within a mechanical engineering discipline
• CAD/CAM experience
• hyperMILL programming experience
• SolidWorks modelling/design experience
• New Product Introduction experience
• Experience with configuration management and engineering change processes
• ERP systems experience
• SMED / machining continuous-improvement experience
• Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or similar qualification

• Technical role with real influence over machining and production performance
• Work on complex precision-engineered components
