Product and Process Improvement Engineer

Circa £40,000 DOE

Monday to Friday

8:30AM to 16:30PM (Flexible)

North Manchester

The Company

A well-established manufacturing business with a strong technical and operational setup. The site runs fast paced processes and requires a practical, hands-on engineer who can support daily activity, problem solving and continuous improvement. The environment is collaborative, quality focused and offers exposure to cross functional teams and multi-site operations. Occasional travel to other sites is required.

The Role

You will support engineering activity across the site, providing technical input into problem solving, process optimisation and improvement projects. The role is hands on and will work closely with production, operations and technical teams to maintain safe, efficient and reliable performance.

You will contribute to engineering projects, support documentation and compliance, and play a key role in day-to-day issue resolution. Monthly travel to other sites is required to support cross site collaboration and technical alignment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Utilising best practices (Lean, Continuous Improvement principles) to review processes, equipment, and manufacturing capability for efficiency, relevance and performance improvements.
  • Working with the operations team to troubleshoot problems and improve production processes.
  • Interpret different types of data from both technical and operational associates.
  • Optimise processes from the viewpoint of productivity, sustainability and efficiency.
  • Create and manage innovative process development trials, process simulations and report the results.
  • Improve product profit margin through quality improvements and raw material evaluations.
  • Select, manage and control contractors for designated projects, with zero tolerance for Environmental or Health and Safety incidents.
  • Work closely with other Process Engineers, maintenance and production associates across the site.

The Person

  • Candidates will be educated to degree level in an Engineering discipline, preferably in a Mechanical- or Chemical-related subject.
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment where you have successfully used problem solving techniques and have a keen understanding and proven ability to employ improvement methodologies.
  • Able to communicate at all levels of a business, confident and articulate, with accomplished presentation skills.
  • Possessing the ability to lead a number of important projects, of any size and importance, with a practical and interactive approach able to generate enthusiasm whilst supporting others.
  • Knowledge on the use of a drawing package such as AutoCAD in addition to the usual suite of Microsoft software is desirable.
  • Ultimately, you will need to work well with minimal supervision and be capable of prioritising workloads and meeting deadlines.
