Private Sector Supply & Projects Officer

Overview
One of my local government clients is seeking a proactive and confident Private Sector Supply and Projects Officer to join their Housing team. This role plays a vital part in monitoring standards in temporary accommodation, ensuring compliance with contracts, and safeguarding tenant wellbeing through regular inspections and effective provider management.This is a hybrid role, but applicants should expect to be on-site for inspections most of the week, with 1-2 days working from home depending on inspection schedules.Key Responsibilities
Manage a patch of temporary accommodation properties, ensuring high standards of tenancy and estate management.Carry out routine and reactive property inspections to identify disrepair, hazards (HHSRS Category 1 and 2), or breaches of housing standards.Ensure timely resolution of issues by liaising with private sector accommodation providers and holding them to contractual obligations.Communicate effectively and empathetically with tenants, explaining property standards and tenancy expectations.Respond to formal complaints and enquiries (including MP/councillor contacts), investigating and drafting clear, evidence-based responses.Maintain accurate case notes and property records on the Council''s housing systems.Provide office duty cover on a rota basis to support the wider team with urgent queries or case management.Work in close collaboration with Housing Needs Officers, Environmental Health, Legal Services, and partner agencies.Essential Skills and Experience
Experience in at least one of the following:Tenancy managementEstate or property managementVoid inspectionsHousing disrepair identification (including HHSRS)Knowledge of housing law, temporary accommodation standards, and contract management.Ability to identify and assess housing hazards, particularly under the Housing Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS).Strong written and verbal communication skills - especially in managing complaints and drafting responses.Comfortable working independently across the borough with minimal supervision.Competent using housing management systems and Microsoft Office tools.Confident and professional when representing the council with both tenants and private landlords.Desirable Attributes
Previous experience working in local authority housing teams or private sector housing teams.Familiarity with temporary accommodation provider contracts and enforcement routes.A basic understanding of safeguarding, anti-social behaviour (ASB) procedures, and how housing issues intersect with wider social concerns.How to Apply
