Our client, an engineering consultancy within the water/Wastewater sector, is looking to appoint 2x Senior/Principal Process Engineer to strengthen their design and project delivery capability. This role offers the chance to work on major water and wastewater treatment schemes, providing technical leadership while supporting project teams and developing the next generation of engineers.
The Role
As a Principal Process Engineer, you will be responsible for leading and coordinating process design from concept through to detailed design. You''ll act as a key technical point of contact for clients, contribute to multidisciplinary collaboration, and ensure the successful delivery of projects in line with regulatory and industry standards.
Key Responsibilities
·Lead process design for wastewater treatment works across feasibility, outline, and detailed design phases.
·Produce and review core design deliverables such as:
oProcess Flow Diagrams (PFDs)
oP&IDs
oMass and energy balances
oProcess calculations and sizing
oDesign Basis Reports (DBRs)
oControl philosophies
·Oversee compliance with client specifications, regulatory frameworks, and industry codes (e.g., WIMES).
·Coordinate with civil Engineering teams to ensure integrated design delivery.
·Contribute to design reviews, HAZOP workshops, and technical risk assessments.
·Support the preparation of proposals, tenders, and commercial documentation.
·Provide mentoring and guidance to graduate and junior engineers, encouraging knowledge sharing and best practice.
Candidate Profile
·Degree-qualified in Chemical or Process Engineering (essential).
·Chartered Engineer (CEng) with IChemE or working towards Chartership within 12 months.
·10 years'' experience in the design of wastewater or sewage treatment projects (or close to 10 years)
·Proven ability to produce and manage full sets of process design documentation.
·Strong technical knowledge of biological, chemical, and sludge treatment processes.
·Experience working within UK water frameworks (AMP cycles) desirable.
·Proficient in AutoCAD or similar CAD software.
·Familiarity with WIMES and Sewers for Adoption.
·Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
