Principal Wastewater Modeller

Our Water technical specialist client is seeking a Principal Wastewater Modeller on a fully remote basis in a permanent role, supporting a range of projects.

With a strong reputation for technical excellence, they support utilities, municipalities, and private sector clients in achieving efficient, resilient, and future-proof water systems.
We are seeking a Principal Wastewater Modeller to join this growing, forward-thinking team. You will lead complex wastewater modelling projects, provide technical oversight, and help shape strategic modelling approaches for clients across the UK and internationally.
While the role is fully remote within the UK, there will be opportunities for occasional international travel to the USA (a few times annually) to support global project delivery and collaboration.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the delivery of wastewater modelling projects, ensuring high technical standards and client satisfaction.
- Develop, calibrate, and analyse hydraulic and hydrological models for wastewater and sewer networks.
- Provide strategic technical input to feasibility studies, master planning, and network optimisation.
- Mentor and guide junior and senior modellers, sharing best practices and fostering technical excellence.
- Liaise with clients, stakeholders, and multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated solutions.
- Drive innovation in modelling methodologies, tools, and workflows, with an emphasis on digital transformation and process optimisation.
- Contribute to winning new work through proposals, bids, and thought leadership.
Skills/experience/qualifications
- Extensive experience in wastewater network modelling (e.g. using InfoWorks ICM, SWMM, or equivalent).
- Strong understanding of UK wastewater infrastructure, regulatory frameworks, and industry best practices.
- Proven track record in leading projects and teams, ideally in a consultancy or utility environment.
- Experience or strong interest in digital transformation and technology-driven optimisation within the water sector is advantageous.
- Excellent communication and client-facing skills.
- Ability to work independently in a remote setting while collaborating effectively with distributed teams.
- Willingness to travel internationally on occasion.
- Experience in sustainable urban drainage systems (SuDS) and integrated catchment modelling.
- Exposure to international water projects.
