Principal / Senior EICA Engineer

My Client is recruiting for a Principal / Senior EICA Engineer in the Water Sector

Location: Multiple Locations in North and South of England with hybrid working

As a Senior / Principal Electrical Design Engineer, you will provide authoritative technical leadership across a portfolio of projects, guiding multidisciplinary teams to deliver robust electrical engineering solutions.

Working closely with Discipline Leads, Chief Engineers, Project Managers, construction teams, clients and suppliers, you will transform complex project requirements into practical, compliant and commercially sound designs while driving engineering excellence throughout the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate the delivery of complex electrical engineering designs within the water and wastewater sector.
• Provide technical leadership and guidance across multidisciplinary project teams.
• Develop innovative, practical and risk-balanced engineering solutions.
• Ensure all electrical designs are safe, sustainable, compliant, buildable and cost-effective.
• Produce, review and approve electrical calculations, specifications, reports, drawings and design documentation.
• Support major project bids and contribute to successful project delivery strategies.
• Act as a technical reviewer and maintain high standards of engineering governance and quality assurance.
• Manage technical delivery from high-level project briefs, balancing programme, cost, quality and resource requirements.
• Identify, assess and manage technical risks, ensuring issues are addressed proactively.
• Work closely with clients, contractors, suppliers and internal stakeholders to achieve project objectives.
• Support and mentor engineers and designers, helping to develop technical capability across the business.
• Promote a culture of continuous improvement, safety, customer focus and engineering excellence.

About The Candidate:
You''ll be an experienced Electrical Design Engineer with a strong technical background and a proven ability to lead complex projects within the water, utilities or infrastructure sectors.

• Degree qualified in Electrical Engineering (BEng, MEng or equivalent).

• Ideally significant experience delivering electrical engineering design solutions within the UK water and wastewater industry.

• Strong understanding of electrical systems associated with water and sewage treatment facilities.

• Experience leading multidisciplinary engineering design projects.

• Knowledge of LV and HV power distribution, motor control centres, standby generation, power systems and industrial installations.

• Ability to develop practical, efficient and economical engineering solutions.

• Good understanding of related engineering disciplines including mechanical, civil, process engineering and project management.

• Strong appreciation of automation, control and instrumentation systems (EICA).

• Excellent technical judgement, problem-solving and decision-making skills.

• Ability to present technical proposals clearly, confidently and convincingly to clients and stakeholders.

• Strong coordination and leadership skills with a commitment to quality, safety and project delivery.

Desirable

• Chartered Engineer (CEng) status.

• Experience as a technical reviewer, approver or signatory.

• Strong knowledge of relevant electrical standards and regulations, including BS 7671.

• Previous experience managing or mentoring engineering teams.

• Established professional network within the UK water sector.

• Experience of electrical design for treatment works, pumping stations and related infrastructure.
