Seeking a Principal Radiation Physicist to lead and support advanced radiation physics, shielding analysis, and radiological safety activities within a highly regulated, safety-critical engineering environment.
This role combines technical leadership, system qualification, shielding design, radiation transport analysis, and safety justification, supporting complex engineering programmes while contributing to tool development and design optimisation.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and conduct radiological assessments and experimental studies to support system qualification and verification.
- Produce and review radiological safety justifications for proposed design solutions and engineering modifications.
- Support and guide design optimisation activities, balancing build constraints with performance and safety requirements.
- Lead or contribute to detailed radiation shielding design and validation.
- Perform and oversee radiation transport modelling and analysis using point kernel and Monte Carlo methods.
- Use and support development of radiation transport tools such as MCNP, MCBEND, ATTILA, or equivalent.
- Direct development of in-house analytical toolsets and methodologies to support departmental capability and project delivery.
- Support radiation metrology, safety studies, and technical substantiation activities.
- Provide technical leadership and guidance on radiological risks, engineering decisions, and compliance with ALARP principles.
- Produce and review high-quality technical reports, calculations, and supporting safety documentation.
Required Experience & Skills
