Principal Mechanical Engineer

Cambridge . With hybrid working allowing for a combination of in-office and home working, this role would suit an experienced Mechanical Engineer who wants to take their next step in their career within an industry-leading consultancy by working on exciting projects in the water sector.

Responsibilities

You will be involved in the whole project life cycle from feasibility and optioneering through to detailed design and construction support including site surveys and investigations.

You will liaise with project managers, technical leaders, design engineers, clients, supply chain partners, contractors, planners and other stakeholders to achieve positive outcomes for the projects and community.

You will manage and guide the more junior team members and help with their development.

You will produce and review technical outputs such as technical specifications and reports, sizing and designing pumping systems and water systems, schedules.

You will provide engineering input to design outputs in collaboration with other disciplines, such as General Arrangement Drawings, 3D models, Control Philosophies, and Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams.

You will be able to deliver engineering inputs to design outputs and participate in collaborative design discussions, including technical workshops, safety reviews such as HAZOPs and ALMs.

You will provide technical leadership to the Flood and Coastal Mechanical team and support the development of junior engineers.

You will understand how lowland drainage pumping stations operate and gain experience in assessing existing site infrastructure to develop and deliver the mechanical design; you will be aware of the Eel Regulations 2009 and their implications on flood and coastal pumping stations.

Qualifications

You are an experienced Mechanical Engineer, ideally chartered with the IMechE, with experience in mechanical design and ideally pump station optioneering, design, construction management and commissioning.

You have experience producing and reviewing technical outputs such as technical specifications and reports, sizing and designing pumping and water systems, and developing schedules.

You are familiar with collaborative planning reviews and designs of solutions, and providing construction and commissioning services.

You can provide engineering input to design outputs across disciplines, including General Arrangement Drawings, 3D models, Control Philosophies, and Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams.

You have strong communication skills and can deliver technical presentations to clients and other design engineers, contributing to collaborative design discussions, including technical workshops and safety reviews (HAZOPs and ALMs).

You can provide technical leadership to the Flood and Coastal Mechanical team and support the development of junior engineers.

You understand how lowland drainage pumping stations operate and the regulatory implications of the Eel Regulations 2009.

You have experience in the energy, infrastructure and water sectors in a mechanical engineering capacity.
