The Role:
So, what will you be doing as a Principal Mechanical Engineer?
- Providing oversight and assurance on behalf of the MOD customer for Warship maintenance and through-life upgrades
- Assisting in the production of estimates and design requirement specifications
- Undertaking functional design and/or providing qualification and evidence for acceptance, fitness for purpose, legislative requirements, and safety
- Developing, promoting, and sharing new technologies for implementation across businesses and programmes
- Acting as an engineering, technical, or design authority for sub-systems
- Providing technical leadership and guidance within your discipline, with occasional responsibility for leading a team of engineers, including line management
What are we looking for in our next Principal Mechanical Engineer?
- Experienced professional engineer with broad mechanical engineering knowledge and a willingness to work towards Chartership
- Strong understanding and hands-on experience across a wide range of mechanical engineering activities
- Ability to make sound engineering decisions across technical areas, with the awareness to seek input from specialists where appropriate
- Experience in one or more of the following systems:
- Auxiliary systems (HVAC, Fuel Systems, Gas Turbine Services, Fresh Water & Sea Water Services)
- Waste systems (Black & Grey Water, Bilge & Sullage)
- Gas Systems, Intake & Exhaust Systems
- Chilled Water, Lube Oil, and Hydraulics
- Demonstrable experience of making safety decisions using recognised safety management processes and tools
