About the Role

As a Principal Geo-Environmental Consultant, you will lead the delivery of project tasks to meet budget, programme, and quality targets. You''ll work to meet or exceed client expectations, promote the full range of the consultancy''s services during client and stakeholder interfaces, and contribute to the ongoing development and growth of the business-both technically and commercially.



Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage selected projects (or project components), including resource planning, subcontractor management, quality assurance, client feedback, and clear communication of changes
  • Undertake site work as required to meet resourcing needs
  • Prepare proposals by understanding client requirements, defining scope, and estimating the level of effort required for successful delivery
  • Manage project data and produce high-quality technical reports covering both environmental and geotechnical elements
  • Review reports produced by others to ensure quality and technical accuracy
  • Ensure compliance across project deliverables, including drawings, reports, specifications, and calculations
  • Build and maintain effective client relationships; manage commercial aspects such as contracts, invoicing, WIP, variations, and debt management for your projects
  • Liaise with project teams, management, and clients to ensure all parties remain informed of project progress and developments
  • Develop a strong understanding of client businesses and their sector to build credibility and long-term relationships
  • Maintain and promote compliance with relevant H&S regulations and support a strong safety culture across the team
  • Take ownership of your professional development, including any role-relevant accreditation
  • Support the development and growth of the consultancy''s geo-environmental capability
  • Contribute ideas and support non-technical tasks where needed to help drive business improvement and growth
  • Manage project financial performance to achieve budget targets and meet KPIs
  • Support bid, quotation, and tender writing (including review and input)
  • Carry out other reasonable duties to support delivery and growth


Essential Skills & Experience

  • Demonstrable experience in a similar principal-level geo-environmental role
  • Relevant technical degree (e.g., chemistry, engineering, geology, environmental science)
  • Higher degree in contaminated land, hydrogeology, geotechnical engineering (or similar) is desirable
  • Evidence of continuing professional development; chartership desirable (or working towards)
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Strong experience delivering land contamination assessments within the UK regulatory framework (current and future land use)
  • Proven ability to write and manage the production of high-quality technical reports
  • Technical oversight and peer review capability across reports and outputs
  • Strong skills in presenting, analysing, and interpreting data
  • Demonstrable project management experience
  • Commercial control experience: forecasting, variations, invoicing, WIP, and debt management
  • Strong HSQE focus; confident contributing at client meetings and on site
