Principal Electrical Design Engineer – Water Industry

Lead electrical design and technical delivery across major UK water infrastructure programmes

Adepto Technical Recruitment is working with a leading engineering and consultancy organisation to recruit multiple Principal Electrical Design Engineers for long-term water industry frameworks across the UK.

This is an excellent opportunity for experienced Electrical Design Engineers looking to take a principal-level role with significant technical responsibility across major AMP8 and future AMP9 programmes.

The Role

As a Principal Electrical Design Engineer, you will lead the technical delivery of electrical design packages across major water and wastewater infrastructure projects.

You will produce, review and approve complex electrical designs, specifications, calculations and construction documentation for process plants, pumping stations and associated infrastructure.

Working within multidisciplinary teams, you will provide technical leadership across electrical, civil, structural, mechanical, process and ICA disciplines, while supporting clients and project teams throughout the design and delivery lifecycle.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading electrical design delivery across major water infrastructure projects
  • Producing and reviewing electrical designs, calculations and technical reports
  • Preparing specifications and construction-ready documentation
  • Checking and approving technical design outputs
  • Acting as Design Lead on complex projects and workstreams
  • Coordinating electrical requirements with wider multidisciplinary teams
  • Supporting design reviews, optioneering and technical decision-making
  • Working closely with clients, contractors and project stakeholders
  • Providing technical assurance throughout the design process
  • Supporting digital design and engineering workflows
  • Identifying opportunities to improve constructability, efficiency and value
  • Managing technical risks and supporting project delivery
  • Providing guidance and mentoring to engineers and wider technical teams
  • Sharing technical knowledge, innovation and best practice
  • Supporting the development of long-term client and framework relationships

About You

We are looking for experienced Electrical Design Engineers with strong technical capability and substantial experience within the water and wastewater sector.

You should have:

  • A degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline
  • Significant electrical design experience within the water industry
  • Experience working on water and wastewater treatment or infrastructure projects
  • Strong knowledge of electrical engineering standards and statutory requirements
  • Experience producing, checking and approving complex electrical designs
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary design teams or workstreams
  • Strong client and stakeholder management skills
  • Commercial awareness and an understanding of project delivery requirements
  • Experience mentoring or developing engineers
  • Excellent technical communication and problem-solving skills

Chartered Engineer status, or a clear commitment to achieving chartership, is expected. Membership of a relevant professional institution is also desirable.

Experience working on AMP programmes and major framework projects would be highly advantageous.

Location & Working Pattern

Location: Brighton

Hybrid working is available, with a typical expectation of two to three days per week onsite depending on project requirements.

Travel to framework locations and occasional client and project site visits will be required.
