Principal Electrical Design Engineer

Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Principal Electrical Design Engineer to lead the design and coordination of electrical systems for a major infrastructure project. The successful candidate will be responsible for producing and reviewing low voltage (LV) electrical designs, ensuring compliance with project requirements, industry standards, and client specifications.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the LV electrical design process across all project stages, from concept through detailed design.
Develop and review calculations, schematics, drawings, and technical documentation.
Utilise Amtech and Dialux (or equivalent software) to produce accurate and compliant LV designs.
Provide technical leadership, guidance, and mentoring to junior design engineers.
Ensure designs meet relevant standards, regulations (BS 7671, IET Wiring Regulations), and health & safety requirements.
Participate in design reviews, risk assessments, and value engineering activities.
Interface with clients, stakeholders, and contractors to resolve design queries.
Support the delivery of designs to programme deadlines and budget constraints.
Skills & Experience
Proven experience as a Senior or Principal Electrical Design Engineer on large infrastructure projects (rail, transport, utilities, or similar sectors).
Strong background in LV electrical design with expertise in power distribution, lighting, earthing, and protective devices.
Proficiency in Amtech and Dialux software.
Sound knowledge of relevant standards and regulations (BS 7671, EN standards, CDM regulations).
Experience in producing detailed electrical design deliverables (calculations, drawings, specifications, reports).
Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary design environment.
Qualifications
Degree (BEng/MEng) in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
Chartered Engineer (CEng) status, or working towards it, preferred.
Membership of IET or equivalent professional body.
