Penguin Recruitment is delighted to be supporting a forward-thinking regeneration and development organisation in their search for a Principal Development Management Officer to join their team in one of London''s key growth areas.
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Principal Development Management Officer to join a fast-paced and high-performing Development Management team, recognised for delivering best-in-class planning services. You will play a key role in shaping major regeneration and development projects across the borough.
THE ROLE
As a Principal Development Management Officer, you will lead on a wide range of Development Management projects, including complex major applications and strategically significant schemes.
You will be responsible for managing projects from pre-application through to determination and appeals, while working closely with senior stakeholders, elected members, and multidisciplinary teams. This role will position you as a key contributor within the organisation as a Principal Development Management Officer.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
* Leading on complex major planning applications and strategic developments
* Managing pre-application, application, and appeal work
* Preparing and presenting reports to Planning Committees, Cabinet, and Members
* Undertaking high-quality planning assessments in line with policy and legislation
* Managing a complex workload across multiple projects
* Liaising with internal teams, stakeholders, and external bodies
* Supporting and mentoring junior staff and contributing to team leadership
* Providing technical advice to the public and stakeholders
* Contributing to spatial planning and policy development where required
WHAT WE''RE LOOKING FOR
* RTPI accredited degree in Town Planning or related discipline
* MRTPI qualified or working towards Chartership
* Strong knowledge of planning legislation, policy, and Development Management
* Experience managing complex and large-scale planning applications
* Ability to lead projects and manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
* Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
* Experience mentoring or managing junior staff
* Strong analytical, organisational, and problem-solving abilities
* A proactive, solutions-focused, and customer-oriented approach
