Key objectives and responsibilities include: implementing, managing, and ensuring compliance with CDM 2015 Regulations, health and safety legislation, and industry best practices across all Mitie projects; promoting Mitie\''s CDM and health and safety policies to embed a strong safety culture; providing expert advice and support to project teams across all RIBA stages; overseeing safe project delivery ensuring all parties understand and fulfil their duties under CDM regulations; facilitating clear communication among stakeholders during pre-construction and construction phases; building strong client relationships and tracking satisfaction and performance in managing project risks; tailoring CDM management to project scale, complexity, and risk; collaborating with HSE, quality, and audit teams to align with Mitie policies; contributing to team meetings by sharing insights and prioritising health and safety risks.Formally agree and define the scope of Principal Designer and/or CDM services with clients on a project-by-project basis; maintain ongoing client liaison throughout the project lifecycle; provide support to clients in developing the project brief; ensure formal appointments for Principal Designer and Principal Contractor roles are in place; submit F10 notifications to HSE where applicable.Facilitate effective communication among all stakeholders and encourage regular progress meetings; support clients in identifying and distributing pre-construction information; conduct site visits to identify hazards and restrictions for inclusion in pre-construction information; highlight gaps and advise on further investigations; ensure health and safety risks are captured in the project risk register; monitor designers in fulfilling their CDM duties; promote coordination between designers and contractors; gather and hand over design and risk information to Principal Contractors.Maintain liaison with construction teams to ensure ongoing exchange of health and safety information; verify supplier appointments meet client vetting requirements; review and support Construction Phase Health and Safety Plans; conduct risk assessment and method statement reviews as needed; ensure CDM documentation is audit-ready; oversee handover of Health and Safety File information during construction and compile the file as the project progresses; deliver the final Health and Safety File, including Operations and Maintenance manuals, within agreed timescales.Additional duties include conducting CDM health and safety inspections on live sites; supporting internal and external audits; delivering CDM training; monitoring and analysing accidents; contributing to management reports and internal communications; advising on topics such as fire safety, asbestos, temporary works, work at height, confined spaces, and demolition; engaging in required training and appraisal; staying informed on evolving legislation and rolling out updates across the Projects team.Qualifications And Experience
Three years\'' experience in a Principal Designer positionWorking knowledge of the CDM Regulations 2015Experience advising on CDM compliance within complex projectsDesirable: Completed two-day Principal Designer training course (or willingness to work towards)NEBOSH Construction Certificate, General Certificate, or comparable QHSE qualificationAPS membership (IMaPS) desirable or willingness to work towardsProfessional qualification in a design or engineering discipline (Desirable or willingness to work towards)Experience with public and private sector construction projectsKnowledge in asbestos, temporary works, fire safety, or confined spaces is beneficialUnderstanding of prevention principles and design risk reductionProficient with Microsoft Office, Excel, PowerPoint, and TeamsPeople, Skills and Benefits
