Principal Clinical/Counselling PsychologistJob summary: Take a lead role, in partnership and collaboration with senior clinicians across disciplines, for developing psychological therapy pathways appropriate to adolescents, and model-driven interventions for children, young people and their families/carers in a community CAMHS setting. Deputise for the CAMHS Psychology discipline lead in their absence. Manage appraisals and supervision arrangements for psychology staff within the SAFE team. Support supervision structures across Enfield CAMHS. Work autonomously within professional guidelines and governance under the supervision of the Head of Psychological Therapies.

Responsibilities

Provide specialist assessments of children, adolescents and their families/carers referred to the team, based on the integration of complex psychological data from various sources.

Formulate and implement plans for the treatment and management of mental health problems, based on an appropriate conceptual framework and evidence-based methods across care settings.

Deliver a range of psychological therapies for children, young people and their families, within and across teams, refining formulations and maintaining provisional hypotheses.

Deliver evidence-based interventions, including short-term, goal-oriented approaches to improve service flow and accessibility, alongside longer-term interventions for more complex needs in an NHS CAMHS service.

Essential qualifications

Doctoral level training in clinical or counselling psychology, including models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies, and lifespan developmental psychology as accredited by the BPS.

Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council as a psychologist (UK).;

Completion of a clinical supervision training (short course) sufficient to supervise doctoral trainees.

Diploma in CBTp.

Doctoral level knowledge of psychological therapies and lifespan development, including multiple therapies, and neuropsychology.

Desirable qualifications

Pre-qualification training in research methodology, staff training, or other applied psychology fields.

Eligibility for Chartered Psychologist status.

Experience supervising clinicians in CBT-p.

Skills and abilities

Expertise in complex psychological assessments and interventions, with ability to communicate highly technical information clearly to clients, families, carers, and colleagues.

Consultation skills with professional and non-professional groups.

Doctoral-level knowledge of research methodology and multivariate data analysis typical of clinical psychology.

Ability to manage high distress and supervise staff accordingly; competency in neuropsychological assessments and EMDR.

Experience/Knowledge

Extensive experience as a qualified clinical psychologist, including post-qualification work in the designated specialty.

Experience of CBT for psychosis and working with carers and family members.

Experience representing psychology within multidisciplinary care and taking clinical responsibility for clients’ psychological care.

Experience supervising clinically and professionally.

Personal qualities

Demonstrable leadership and management qualities; commitment to clinical governance and ongoing professional development.
