Principal Air Traffic Management Consultant

Location: Farnborough (role will involve international travel to client sites)
About the RoleWe are seeking an experienced Principal Air Traffic Management Consultant to provide expert support aviation industry clients across the UK and Internationally. The successful candidate will bring domain knowledge of ATM systems, procedures, and regulatory frameworks, helping to shape and deliver complex programmes that enhance airspace operations and safety.
As a Principal Consultant, you will act as a trusted advisor to stakeholders, ensuring solutions meet operational, technical, and compliance requirements while supporting long-term strategic objectives. You will contribute to the development of airspace strategies, implementation of new technologies, and integration of civil/military operations.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and deliver consultancy projects in the field of Air Traffic Management, ensuring alignment with UK and international regulatory standards (e.g., CAA, ICAO, Eurocontrol, EASA).
Provide subject matter expertise on air traffic systems, CNS (Communications, Navigation, Surveillance), airspace design, and ATM operations.
Support clients in the development, evaluation, and implementation of ATM concepts, policies, and future technologies (e.g., digital towers, UAS integration).
Conduct operational and technical assessments, feasibility studies, and risk analyses.
Liaise with ANSPs and industry stakeholders to shape requirements and support decision-making.
Mentor junior consultants and contribute to business development by identifying opportunities, preparing proposals, and delivering client presentations.
Skills and Experience Required
Extensive experience in Air Traffic Management gained within civil aviation, defence, or regulatory environments.
Strong understanding of ATM systems, procedures, and related technologies (e.g., surveillance systems, airspace management, ATC tools).
Proven track record of delivering consultancy or advisory services within complex programmes.
Knowledge of UK and international ATM frameworks, policies, and regulations.
Excellent stakeholder engagement, communication, and influencing skills.
Strong analytical and problem-solving ability with a focus on practical solutions.
Degree (or equivalent) in aerospace, aviation management, systems engineering, or related field.
Desirable
Experience working with the UK MOD, NATS, CAA, Eurocontrol, or related organisations.
Understanding of next-generation ATM initiatives such as SESAR, U-space, or digitalisation programmes.
