Primary Teacher - Year 1 Teacher with a QTS

Qualifications and Requirements:

1. Holds QTS (Qualified Teacher Status)

   • Essential for teaching in state-maintained primary schools in England.

   • Usually achieved through:

     • A PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate in Education)

     • School Direct, Teach First, or a Bachelor of Education (BEd)

2. Relevant Degree

   • Typically in education or a subject relevant to the curriculum (e.g., English, Maths, Science).

3. DBS Check

   • A clean Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check is required to work with children.

4. Right to Work in the UK

   • If you''re not a UK citizen, a visa (like the Skilled Worker visa) may be required.

As a Year 1 teacher, you''re working with children aged 5–6 years, usually the first year of Key Stage 1. Duties include:

• Planning and delivering lessons across the national curriculum

• Supporting early reading (often using phonics) and writing skills

• Assessing pupil progress (including phonics screening checks)

• Managing classroom behaviour and routines

• Working with teaching assistants, SENCOs, and parents

• Providing a nurturing, structured, and stimulating learning environment

• Main Pay Range (Inner London):
  £36,745 to £52,440 (depending on experience)

• Independent/private schools (may not require QTS)
