Primary Teacher - Year 1 Teacher with a QTS

Qualifications and Requirements:
Holds QTS (Qualified Teacher Status)
Essential for teaching in state-maintained primary schools in England.
Usually achieved through:
A PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate in Education)
School Direct, Teach First, or a Bachelor of Education (BEd)
Relevant Degree
Typically in education or a subject relevant to the curriculum (e.g., English, Maths, Science).
DBS Check
A clean Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check is required to work with children.
Right to Work in the UK
If you''re not a UK citizen, a visa (like the Skilled Worker visa) may be required.
As a Year 1 teacher, you''re working with children aged 5–6 years, usually the first year of Key Stage 1. Duties include:
Planning and delivering lessons across the national curriculum
Supporting early reading (often using phonics) and writing skills
Assessing pupil progress (including phonics screening checks)
Managing classroom behaviour and routines
Working with teaching assistants, SENCOs, and parents
Providing a nurturing, structured, and stimulating learning environment
Main Pay Range (Inner London):
£36,745 to £52,440 (depending on experience)
