About Empowering Learning

Empowering Learning is an education recruitment agency that connects qualified, committed teachers and support staff with schools across [region]. We take the time to get to know every teacher we work with, so we can place you in schools that match your experience, your teaching style and your availability. As an agency, we act as your employment business. We handle your registration, compliance, placements and pay, so you can focus on teaching.

The opportunity

We''re recruiting Primary School Teachers with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) to join our Derby teaching pool. You''ll have access to a range of primary schools, from small village schools to large multi-form entry academies, and you''ll choose the type of work that suits you:

  • Daily supply: flexible work that fits around you, with the freedom to choose which days you work
  • Long-term supply: block bookings, including maternity cover and absence cover, giving you continuity with a class
  • Permanent roles: if you want a permanent post, we''ll help you find the right school and support you through the process

Whatever you choose, you''ll have a named consultant who knows your preferences and works to match you with the right schools.

Key responsibilities

  • Plan, prepare and deliver engaging, well-structured lessons in line with the national curriculum and the school''s planning, where provided
  • Teach across EYFS, KS1 and/or KS2, depending on your experience and preference
  • Establish and maintain high standards of behaviour in line with each school''s behaviour policy
  • Create a safe, inclusive and supportive learning environment for all pupils
  • Assess and monitor pupil progress, marking work and providing feedback as appropriate to the booking
  • Support pupils with SEND and EAL, working alongside the SENCo and teaching assistants
  • Follow school procedures, including safeguarding, health and safety, and the school''s code of conduct
  • Report any safeguarding concerns immediately to the school''s Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL)
  • Communicate professionally with school staff, leadership teams and, where required, parents and carers

About you

Essential

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent UK-recognised teaching qualification
  • Recent experience teaching in a UK primary school, or completion of your ECT induction
  • Confident classroom management and strong communication skills
  • A genuine commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
  • The right to work in the UK
  • Willingness to complete our full registration and compliance process

Desirable

  • Experience in EYFS, KS1 and/or KS2
  • Experience supporting pupils with SEND or EAL
  • Experience of phonics programmes (e.g. Read Write Inc, Little Wandle) or primary maths mastery approaches
  • A clean, enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service
  • Flexibility to take on both short notice and long-term bookings

Early Career Teachers (ECTs): we welcome applications from ECTs. We''ll talk you through how supply and long-term placements work alongside your induction requirements.

What we offer

  • Competitive daily rates, paid weekly
  • Access to a wide range of primary schools across Derby and Derbyshire
  • A dedicated consultant who understands your availability and goals
  • Flexible work, with you in control of which bookings you accept

Our registration and safer recruitment process

We follow safer recruitment practices in line with Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) and our obligations under the Conduct of Employment Agencies and Employment Businesses Regulations 2003. All teachers who register with Empowering Learning go through a full set of pre-placement checks before working in any school. These include:

  • An interview (in person or by video) to discuss your experience, motivation and suitability for working with children
  • Proof of identity, including photographic ID and proof of address
  • Right to work verification (including online share code checks where applicable)
  • An enhanced DBS check with barred list check, plus Update Service registration where possible
  • Verification of your qualifications, including QTS
  • A Teaching Regulation Agency (TRA) check to confirm you are not prohibited from teaching
  • Two satisfactory references, covering at least the last five years of employment or study, including your most recent employer
  • Overseas criminal record checks (or equivalent) if you have lived or worked outside the UK
  • A full employment history, with any gaps explained
  • Medical fitness confirmation for the role
  • Completion of safeguarding training, including up-to-date knowledge of KCSIE Part One

We''ll support you through each stage and keep you updated, so you know exactly what''s needed and when you can start work. Please note that all placements are subject to these checks being completed to our and the school''s satisfaction.
