A welcoming and inclusive primary school in Gloucester is seeking a dedicated Primary Mental Health and Learning Support Assistant to join their supportive team. As a Primary Mental Health and Learning Support Assistant, you will support pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, autism, and other additional learning needs. You will play a vital role in creating a safe, positive, and nurturing environment where every child feels valued and supported.
The Role
As a Primary Mental Health and Learning Support Assistant, you will:
- Provide 1:1 support for pupils who may struggle with emotional regulation, anxiety, or engagement in the classroom
- Deliver small-group interventions focused on social skills, confidence, resilience, and wellbeing
- Support children with additional needs throughout the school day
- Implement effective behaviour management strategies and de-escalation techniques
- Build positive and trusting relationships with pupils
- Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, support staff, and external agencies to ensure the best outcomes for every child
What We''re Looking For
- A patient, resilient, and empathetic individual
- Confidence supporting children with SEN, SEMH, or behavioural challenges
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills
- A genuine interest in mental health, psychology, education, or child development
- Previous experience working with children, young people, or vulnerable individuals is desirable but not essential

Ideal Backgrounds (Not Essential)
- Psychology or related degree
- Youth work, care work, or support work experience
- Experience within PRUs, alternative provisions, or specialist settings
- Team Teach, MAPA, or CPI training
Requirements
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
- Right to work in the UK
